'" ... . '" ,.; . u o ~ w Z w -' u > u AME MX at AME Indian Dunes M X - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - by Tom Corley VALENCIA, CAL., Nov. 25. 1972 With the team race taking place Friday at Afroyo and all of the racers having very exhausted bodies along with their bikes being worked over from the three hours of racing, the turnout for the first AME Indian Dunes race was just made up from the local racers who usually race at this park every Sunday. This meant that they really have the track pretty well wired. making it harder fbr newer racers who are venturing around for the first time to place in t~e winner's position very easily. Hopefully next week more of the AME crew should be out to test these races in aU the classes for an evcn better day of racing. One racer who made the scene despite the usual stars here on lhe Shadow Glen track was racer :-io. 78, Germain, who ca.me from around the San Franci~co area and was racing for A&A Manufacturing Company in Redwood City. Racing on a fast CZ 250 Germain easily scored three firsts in the 250 class for a first place win that made his racing at the Dunes worth while. Another racer who was hassling the hot 250's was Steve Bebec.k, a consistent AME: racer on a CZ who also did quite well and was one of the only AME racers w)'to got in wilh the action. Arroyo---:----------------- by Tom Corley DE VORE:, CAL .. Nov. 24. 1972 One of the beller races of the en tire /\~IE '72 season was seen on lhe Arroyo Cycle Park track Friday for the ,\1\1E: annual Team race which. was aU-around great from the LeMans type start to the human sized trophies with turkeys on LOp for the overall winners. ] t was not a usual race, twO man tearns were seen hacking it ouL on a spacious Arroyo track thal was about 3.2 mjles long will all of the rough motocross features of the best courses along with the track condition and even a one-half mile stretch for Lhe A:vt E racers to try their road racing abilities on. It became grueling for even the top AME shoes and the Europeans. Th ree hours of bike breaking. bod bruising racing made il necessary La switch off to your buddy every 20 or 30 minutes. The contest was between the racers who had strong bikes that held together. these wert:: the teams who m,.H.lt' it through while the other hOi-dogs found their bikes sl~lrting to become un ,1ut:d .md in need of rep.ilr when the 3~j let go. . The big bore Ihree hour sessIon got off with a running start as the racers ran to their :vtX bikes with their clumsy ~IX booties and started lO waiJ untiJ around noon dme. Two.of the great AME racers from Kar CvcJe-john Fackler (CZ) ,md Oan Radlauer (~lon) ended up walking off with the overall win against ule rest LO win the big 1\.\1E: trophies. The following teams were Ratzloff-jenlUns and Eddie + john anehe?. It was just as exciting when the >mall bore class took 011. Right away the race was between two tcams who kept competing to the finish line.. fter the long three hours team Mike Gibson and Toby Taki, both on Pen tons. nipped our Precision Cycle Tony Rogers. who raced a Ilodaka Wombat, and Tom DeVore (Ric) by just a few yards distance for the final judgement.
