• . ClovisMX by Mike Moore CLOVIS, NEW MEX., Nov. 5, 1972 Today was inauguration day at the newly motocross track belonging to the Clovis Sportcycle Association. A good crowd of riders from the New Mexico-Texas area were on hand to give the new track a thorough breaking-in. The assault was led by the 100 class, and turned out to be a real duel through all three motos. A smooth rider by the name of Rocky Lyons (Hod) proved to be the best combination for the day, but not 'til he was able to put down serious bids from Ken Taylor and jeff Crawford. Kicking, gouging and biting are words that could describe the first mota of the 125's, but it was all good clean fun. This series of races was fulI df exci temen t and the winner wasn't determined until the final. mota. jeff Wofford, mounted on a Penton, took first place. Second place gold was taken home by an extremely classy rider by the name of Ted Stallings. He is definitely one to w",-tch. . The first heat of the 250 class made it' as far as the first corner. After they got everything untangled and sorted out, a restart was in order. The second time, the riders cooled it in the first turn and the race was on. There was some realIy far out riding in this class. A white knuckle performance was turned in by Teddy Kelly (AjS) to cop the first place goodies. Gerald Bailey (Bul) .was a very close second and some spectators 'swore they heard his Bul pan ting ;It the end of the day. For all you died-in-the-wool thumper fans-; the Open class was a real treat. Larry Davis horsed his big "Beezer" around the track to take home the number one trophy, Bill Hotchkiss on a "Yammie" took second and Tracy Womack, up on a Suzuki, slid into third. It was a successful first meet on a fairly challenging track. N ,: o Z (/) 3: w z W ..J U > U Both these pictures hh is one and the one on the opposite page) are by Mike Moore.
