CMC CARLSBAD! Del11anmer Gets SHOT,Takes second! N ,; o Z ~ w Z W ..J o >o by Buzz Baty/Creative Images CARLSBAD, CAL., Nov. 12, 1972 Jon Derhammer managed to take second 250 Expert today despite beIng shot in the back.. .literally. Derhammer was hit in the back by a. 22-caliber air rifle pellet fired by some unknown idiot. The pellet hit a rib that deflected it away from any vital organs. Jon's in satisfactory conditiolL. Had the idiot been 'caught, he probably wouldn't be OK. Many enraged riders and spectators were' rather short on understanding or the matter and it could have turned into something very serious. As it was, a sick mind still remains loose, but Jon's OK • now. Gaylon Mosier won both motos in front of Jon to rap up yet another overall win this year - this coming in the 250 class. Gaylon is steadily making his CMC season poin ts lead more and more stable as the year heads into the final month and a half. David Boydstun must have liked Kelvin Franks' hot 500 machine which he rode to victory last week at Saddleback. He rode it again today and streaked home to a pair of wins again to take the 500s in the absence of the hot Rex' Staten. Recent transfer Terry Trachy (CZ) grabbed second. Trachy made a very impressive showing in the recent Hi Performance series and because of it, transferred. The winner of that series, David Lasch, was disq ualified by CMC officials and a re-tabulation of the series points gives the win to Don Bridges. It was brought to th.e CMC's attention th:'t Lasch was not only an AMA Expert 10 Arizona, bu t was one of the best in the Gaylon Mosier was 250 Expert winner. Despite getting shot by some trigger happy gun freak. Jon Derhammer pulled out a second. state, reports the AMA's Dave Welsh. Lasch was given written notice as to the disqualification and was asked to provide a reasonable explanation. Nothing was received so the rejection was upheld. Matt Roth (Pen) managed to squeek through for the win in the topsy-turvey 125 class. Marty Smith (Mnk) took the second overall but it was Tim Lunde who did much of the challenl/:inl/:. Tim experienced his share of problems, though, and wound up finishing out of the top three as Mark Tyer had his Penton in third. Three Juniors and one Intermediate dominated their classes and division' today by sweeping all three motos: Jeff Powell, (Pen-125 Jr. 2), Joe Elliott (CZ-250 Jr. 1), Gary Ogden (CZ-500 Jr.) and Neil Davis (Suz-500 Int.).
