by Buzz Baty/Crt:ativ<: Images GARDENA, CAL., Nov. 8, 1972 - Tim Hart is unreal. H<: imally d'id it. All nin<:. In th<: past thr<:<: m<:<:tings h<:rt: at Ascot, Tim has won 22. of til<: 27 motos. and <:igh t of th<: nin<: Expert c1ass<:s. I'n his last five appearanc<:s the 'lights h<:r<: and at oth<:r tracks, h<:'s won 38 of 45 motos and 14 of 15 <:v<:nts ent<:red. Tim ' Hart is unreal. Tim aced out Mark Ty<:r again in th<: 125 class as the two Pen tons had to duel it out with Bultaco-mounted Tim Lunde. Lund<: was consistent with three thirds and that was a bit bett<:r than Dave Carlson's fourth place tally of 4-4-2 on the new Yamaha. Hart's domination of the 250 class was overshadowed by the tight battl<: for third behind Dave Pessy (Oss). Gaylon Mosier (Mai) showed up for the first time in a long while and barely snatched third from Shane McDonald (Gre) by a mere 19 points. Billy Payne had a few tigh t momen ts keeping his Mike's Racing Center Maico ahead of Dave .Pessy in the 500, but when the points were added up, he had the clear shot at second with Alvin Blain (Kaw) pawwing Pessy for fourth.' It was Robert Aslund (Suz) and Richard Lamis (Kaw) one-two in all three motos of the 100 Jr program. Wes Anderson's Honda got stuck quite a ways back in the first round, but a couple of thirds in the final two eased him into third for the nigh t. Rick Anaya rolled his Mon tesa 'across the finish line in his two 125 Jr. qualifying heats, then turned around and did it again in the Main ahead of Elias Gomes (Yam) and Bob VanBramer (Bul). It was a slightly different story in th<: 250 showdown. Skip Cristey (Yam) snuck across first when 'it coun ted and aced out Jim Lee (Oss) and Dave Foltz (CZ). Foltz had qualified for the Main by taking a first and second in Div. II. Div. I's transfering 'shoes, Kent Benson (Oss) and Mike Seagraves (CZ), got poor starts in the final and missed out at the checkered. . Brian O'Ryan (CZ) rolled up the b<:st three motos showing in the 500 Jr. class and picked up the big trophy while the littler ones went to H. Marquis (Yam) and Bob Newton (Yam). • Dan Davis propelled his Yamaha to a rather consistent win- (for a change) in the 125 Intermediate with Jeff Bunn (Ric), a reliable front-runner, in s<:cond. Mark Marinez (Bul) eased in with a third. it was a tight fight in the 250 Inters between Tom Altobello (Mai) and Ken Smith (CZ) for the overall. KeF! lost out when he had a poor showing in the second round" after winning the first. Ellsworth Freeman wasn't too far behind in third. The 500 Inter winner, Chris Allen didn't' have that much of a problen: holding Ray Bedham (Mai) and Tom Bryant (CZ) to second and third. CMC Lions; Tim Hart: all nine. fy AMAHA OWNERS' '¥ NEED HELP? Last week's surprise winner, Tom Baugh, tried to double up on his Rickman, but ended up second over Tim Lu,:,de (BuI), whose elaim to third came with a second place finish in the second moto. Steve Gerber's secpnd in mota one wasn't good enough, it seems. Then Charlie snuck up on the rest of the 250 crew to swap wins with Hershey only to lose in the end because of a third; the "Candy Man" had a second. A pair of fourths wound up third for Rich Schilling and CZ. ' If you hadn't already guessed, both Tim Hart and Billy Payne were ausent (but they don't have to bring a note from home next week. And who should take their place up front in the 500? Of course, Pessy, David won the first moto and went on to win overall with Greeves-mounted Rick Brown second, . y-. 11900W.PicoBlvd. W. Torrance is just a roll through the gears from Lions Drag Strip and tonight it rained in torrents. The gusher sprang mid~ay through the first round of motos, catching many spectators by unsurprise beings that they brough t along the necessary protection. Others (those brave souls) stuck it ou t on the west bank and watched the Joe Johnston jumping contest with surprisingly high spirits. it just wasl)'t Joe's night, however, as' it usually isn't. Charlie Bower, Bob Hershey and Dave P'essy each held the largest fistful of points at the reduced tally of two motos, but Bower aced 'em aU at the pay window with a second overall to boot.
