CRC Rawhide ~ i ... _ straight wins, which were good for 1200 points. Rick Ricker (DKW) came up only 56 points out of first place in the 100 Beginners, under 16 class. Ricker grabbed a first, fourth, and second over his three matos, which gave him 869 points on the day. Ricker would dearly love to have another crack at his second mota, where he took a high tum at the finish line, drifted onto the soft berm, and was passed hy two cycle pilots one who turned out to he the eventual 'winner - before he could get back on the track and past the checkered Dag. by The Shadow Photos by Richard Padgett ELSfNORE, CAL., Nov. 5, 1972 - A couple of great rides produced class championships for "M aico " Mike Hogan, and R.O. Waldron. Hogan dominated the 250 Novice class in all but the second mota, where he fen and had to settle for second place, Two first on his other two motos gave him 1100 points on the day, and a first place overall finish . Waldron (Kaw) , was extremely impressive in the Veterans class, grand-slamming the field with three N .... With over a baker's dozen entered, you would have expected more than the normal quota of risky maneuvers. Even so, this class would have given more than you'd bargained for. There was that wild first mota scrambles for first, in which Jeffrey Vidic emerged victorious trailing the pack of screamin ' meemies. Dave Carlson was hot on his tails, with Bruce Baron and John Volkman closing in, but Jeff had such a good lead th at their eiforts were nil. A new order came in to play with the second race, as Volkman stampeded his Bu1 to the front of the here!. John's supremacy was short-lived, however. Bruce Baron took the Bul by the horns and slid into lead position. Meanwhile, Vidic had fought his way into third behind Volkman. That tied Baron and Vidic for first, as well as deadlocking Carlson and Volkman in second. This meant the overall was still up for grabs. Mota Three clinched it, as John Volkman once more led off the line, This time he didn't let Baron take it from him, so Bruce took second-best followed by Davy. Vidic had gotten an unfortunate dead-last start, so overall it was Baron, Volkman.• Carlson. Davy took top spot in the 100, but Ted Lockwood prepares to do the It's...-bird routine. T. J. The 250 Expert saw Mike Gillman (AJS) take an uncontested sweep over Maico-mounted Ray Surprenant, The Intermediate was also swept. This time it was Bul-rider Dale Andersen, who's been doing it pretty habitually, over Yamah-ers Mark Balzer and Terry Hugueley. Ray Lopez knocked off the 500 Expert in fine style. Dave Smith (Suz) picked up second, with Gary Cochell (A]S) third. Paul McGill had the win in the In termediate class on a CZ. Some of those Juniors are picking up skill in sweeping up. The prime example is Mike Loper (Kaw) in Division I of the 100s. Lee Eide almost did it to the second division, but was prevented by Lee Caldwell (Bul). That one win put Caldwell third, and Bill Franks (Ste) filled in second. Some other near-sweeps: Gary Ogden in the 500, with Lee Evans taking Mota Three for second overall, both on CZs; and Don Elder for the 250 II on a Maico, also edged out in the final race by second placer Mike Huhn (AjS). The 250 I had Rickey Sanders at the helm on a Suzuki. David Dekoker (Yam) and Mike MorKan (Bul) headed up the 125 Junior divisions, while Schoolboys Ron Utaski and John Gless led their respective Junior and Intermediate divisions. 2 & 4 STROKE: PIPES COMPETITION SILENCERS 90036.
