CRA MX at De Anza ATTENTION DEALER _ by Barge Charger RlVERSlDE, CAL., Nov. 5, 1972 Badlands - that's what they call the hills five miles East of Sun"ymead. And they arc bad - bad for farming. bad for building, bad for almost anything except motorcycles; they're great for bikes. De Anza Cycle Park is located in the mid'dle of the badlands. Mike Sorich was first in the first two 100 Beginner motos with the big battle going on behind him as Danny Murphy and Dan Patterson fough t for second. Patterson prevailed and beat Murphy in the first two motos but Murphy got it all together in the last moto and took first ahead of Patterson and Sorich. Two firsts and a third gave Sorieh the overall win by a narrow margin. Brian Gilfillan swept the 100 Junior class for an easy win on his Baja. Herb Bayard was never . passed and lOok home the first place trophy in the minicycle class. Ed Woods had plans to win the 125 Junior class on his Husky but had to settle for second as Dave Williams put a crimp in his plans by taking first for the second week in a row. Steve Wells had a little trouble from Phil Joiner in the first 125 Beginner moto bu t managed to stay in there for the win. In the next two motos Steve didn't give anyone else a chance as he really turned it on and won easily. Keith Patten won all three motos in the 250 Beginner class. Guy Nelson is one of the fastest 250 Juniors around, but Greg Wilson proved that consistency counts also as he held oil for second behind Nelson in the first two motos and when Nelson's spark plug quit in the last moto Wilson took the overall win. This is CYCLE NEWS. _ by The Shadow DEVORE, CAL., Nov. 4, 1972 There's something new in the Hooligan race, if you're tired of havin'g the same big guys win every time. Before every Hooljgan race, the CRC places a different class into an envelope. At the end of the event, only riders in that class are judged for trophies - the re'st ride for fun. This Saturday, it was the 250 Beginners class, with Greg Turk, who also piloted his Yamaha to victory in the regular 250 Beginners race, winning the 15-lap Hooligan event. Mark Detter (Yam) won the Minibike class by a scant 100 points over Jack Bright (Yam). Detter 'took two .straight first places, then a second, while Bright took two straight second place, then a first, which he took on the last 50 feet before the checkered flag. The fmal moto was really a great race to, watch. Good rides went to champs David Ohl (Mail. Open Novice, and "R'apid" SquireJr. (CZ), 250 Novice. Incidently, Novice riders are not racing only against Novice riders, with Beginners racing against only Beginners.
