ORANGE, CAL., Oct. 22, 1972 - All
you mini-bike and cycle riders put a big
circle around the third Sunday of each'
month and make it out to SaddJeback
for a guaranteed good time.
It was the first time Mr. & Mrs. Jim
Bennett, owners of Mini-World have
attempted promoting a race and, with a
lot of help from enthusiastic parents,
they threw a smooth, well-organized fun
event with lots of classes and trophies.
Harry's Cycle gave the kids an extra
bonus by donating a can of Analube to
the winner of each beat.
Todd Peterson had to be the big winner of the day going home with wins in
the 4 to 6 hp., six-to-eleven years old
class. In thjs one, he had three solid
firsts over Johnny Daniels and Johnny
Miller. Riding the same bike in the 7 hp
Open class, Todd pulled a strong second
to Freddy Sidner. Don Van Tassel
rounded out the field.
In the Mini-Cycle competition, Mr.
Peterson climbed aboard his hot little
Indian for the 0-75cc, eleven and over
and again showed the boys how to get
the job done on the challenging
Saddleback course. Richy Simmons had
a solid second and Don Swindle took
the hard fought third.
To round out his successful
afternoon Todd picked up a third in the
75-125cc Open II. Winner Marty Miller
Pete Schaffhauser the eventual 100 Beginner winner leads Bill Persall eventual third.

for seven laps in the first 125 junior
moto. Ron kepr a slight lead until his
Puch got sideways on the downffill and
went end over end to the bottom,
wrecking his frame. Steve Wells ran
away with the 125 Beginner class in all
three motos.
The 175/200 combined moto was
stopped after three of the riders played
wipe-out coming down the downhill.
Gerald Williams' Ossa caromed off jim
Beal's Yamaha and smacked into a
vertical embankmen t, snapping his fork
tube like a toothpick. Luckily no one
was injured and the race was restarted
after everybody had a chance to make
mjnor repairs. Kevin Cox demolished
the opposition in the 250 class ·as he
won all three motos and lapped
everyone on the track doing it. After
breaking his Ossa Gerald Williams
borrowed ffis brother's 125 Yamaha and
entered the 175 class. Gerald won the
third moto when Mike Moreno's
Yammy siezed and with seconds in the
first two motos he had enough po.ints
for the overall win.

to Brad McMartin (Ric), with the
Division II event going to B. Tarling
(Yam).
Big Bike winners included T. Burgess
(Yam) at 2.50 juniors, Division 1, R.
Spencer (Yam) at 250 Jumors Division
II, Tom Alexander (Mai) at Open
jumors, Division 1, and Marlin Harris
(Hus) at Open Juniors, Division 11.
G. Black (Puc) won at 125
Intermediates, K. Mathis (Bul) won at
125 Seniors, W. Pollock (Suz) captured
the 100 Seniors class, V. Tamietti
(Yam) won- at 250 Semers, Morgan
Molocco (Yam) captured the 250
Intermediates. j. Miller (Mai) took the
Open Semors race, and Jim Rjch (Suz)
won at Open Intermemates.

DEADMAN'S POINT, CAL., Oct. 22,
1972 - Riders moved closer to the pot
of gold Sunday at Deadman's Poin t, as
the National Racing Association played
host ro the second round of the "Suzuki
Series" J which they are co·sponsoring
wi th th,e High Desert Racing
Association.
"Big" David Oller (Hon) was a
winner at Minj-Cycles (75cc). Dave is
out to win the Suzuki 250 so ne can get
the bike he really wan ts. Even as big as
Dave is, he's still just short of 250 size.
Taking the Mini-Cycle (65cc) event
was j. Castro, wffich the Powder Puff
winner was S. Brown (Hod).
Bill Larson (Hod) took the 100
Juniors, Division I event, with B. Evans
(Ric) capturing the 100 juniors,

RIVERSIDE, CAL., Oct. 28, 1972 The first 100 junior moto Dave Rjng
jumped into the lead with Bill Persall
hot after him for three laps. But Bill had
forgotten to buckle bis Bell Star and
when it wound up on the ground, he
was black flagged until he stopped to
put it back on. Bob Theriault had come
from last place and was now pressing
Dave Rjng. His Baja had more power
than Ring's 90 Yamaba and on the last
Ring missed a sbift giving Theriault the
lead and the win. The second moto
Theriault took the lead and held it for
three laps until be spun out. Persall took
the lead only to have Ring power back
by him. Within a lap Theriault was again
ahead of Ring for the win. The third
moto Theriault led from start to finish
with Rjng seeming to be a certain
second un til he got a flat letting Persall
past. Pete Schaffhauser dominated the
100 Beginners, finishing all three motos
well ahead of the competi tion.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - At its dosing
session on October 18, Congress vo ted
on and passed the Noise Control Act of
1972 wh ich con tains provisions
supported vigorously by the Motorcycle
Industry Council for the past two years.
The Act still must be signed in to law by
the President, but no difficulty is
expected.
Basically the Act empowers the
Environmen tal Protection Agency to set
noise emission standards for products

just had too mucb go in his S teens and
second place Robert Friese had enough
in his Honda. Jim Neiberger took the
win in Division I.
Bob md manage to win the 0-75cc,
twelve and over, Division I with a dean
sweep. John Leader and Bobby Smjth
were second and third.
In the 6-9 year old, 0-75cc, Jimmy
Simmons had no trouble taking the win
but Shaw Anderson and David jones'
had some real good goes for the second
place. David took the first round with
Shawn coming back strong to take the
next two and the second overall. David
was third.
