Sprockets MX _ Victoria MX by Carol Witt Pbotos by Karen ffartman WICHITA, KANS., Oct. 1, 1972 - 119 riders turned out for the S 1000 race today, some coming from as far as St. Louis. Everyone was pleased with the way the track was laid out. The 125 Sportsman started the day's races with Bill Kenley from Wicbita on a CZ taking first for the day. Randy Sbekell from St. Louis was a welcome guest in the 125 Senior class. This boy has only been riding motocrnss abou t a year, and he made a very good impression on one and alI today. In the 250 Sportsman class Brad Leech (Yam) took first. Second went to Don Cempler (Yam) and third went to Tom McBride (Mon). In the 250 Senior class in the last moto, Loy Burnett, riding a Kawasaki, got off the line first and Gary WiLL, Wichita, riding a Yamah-a got off eighth. Even though there was no cbance of Loy getting first for the day, he never gave up, and rode that Kawasaki for all he could get out of it. By the fifth lap, however, Will had worked himself up and as they went over the Paul Bunyon bump, Will too.k him and first for the day, leaving Burnell second with third going to Craig Bills (Yam). .-. Loy Burnett was second 250 Senior. _ by Rita Gunter Photos by Tommy Gunter VICTORIA, TEX., Oct. 1,1972 -Steve Storbeck won the mini bike class, defeating quite a number of otber little guys. Second place was J)erek Hierbolzer. The powder puff class was won by Judy Gunter ahead of Sonya "Sam" George and ber sister Donna. The girls ran three heats to determine the winner just like the boys class. If they have to pay the same en try fee as the boys then they sbould be allowed to ride as many heats as the boys. Come on girls - start racing. If enough girls show interest and en thusiasm for a class of their own more of the track operators will promote powder puff races. The 100 Junior class was won hy Midge Mitcbell riding a Super Rat. Yamaha mounted Ronny Pentecost had some hard luck in the first heat which caused him to lose a lap bu t be came back strong and took second place in the overall poin t tally. Dwayne Mahachek (Yam) won all three heats in the 100 Senior class. Billy Bryan riding a hot Honda took second place overall. Ricky Pilgrim and Jarrell Lambert had quite a duel going in the 125 Junior class. Ricky was the victor in this duel, with Jarrell second and Craig Mizes taking the third place slot. This slot had lots of contenders, such as Robert Ellison, Randy Kacir and Walter Rasmussen, with each one being in third at one time or the other. As usual, tbe 125 Senior race was an exciting one. Bruce Miller won the class bu t had a hot baLLIe on his hands fighting off "Fast" Robert Vaughn and Steve Wilson. Steve, riding a beautiful new yellow DKW, copped a second just ahead of Girzzly Bear Robert. Jarrell Lambert (Yam) took first place in the 250 Junior class with Maico mounted big Tony Ebers second.
