Perris TT - - - - - - - - - by Elaine Jones PERRIS, CAL., Sept, 16,1972 - Vince Graves got his new frame working with him and put on a good exhibition of slipping and sliding as he won the Expert moto. Second place Paul Lambert almost gave me cardiac arrest as he got all ou t of shape down the front straigh t. How he managed to hang on to it, I'lf never know but-I'll bet he scared himself almost as bad as he did me. Lee Hamby was third. Steve Robb has a sano looking Harley that also goes fast as he proved to John Colicchio in 'the Amateur moto. Bill Trott who has had a lot of mechanical problems, held together for the third place"slot. The name Beck seemed to be synonymous with winning. Jim Beck started things off in the 125 Novice I with Richard Beck in the third place slot. In betweerr this Beck sandwich was Richard McDonald. In the 250 Novice II it was Ossa moun ted 'Mike Beck that led the boys around with Ernie Morris second and Brian Garcia third. Didn't have a chance to fmd out if these guys are related. Debi J ones had held off Brian Kraft for two motos but a bad start in the third moto had Debi back in traffic where she couldn't get any closer to the front than fourth while Brian was in fITSt. She did pJck up the second and Eddie Shipley was third. John Erickson and Steve Lyons won Divisions II and III. Marc Jones had no trouble holding off all comers in the 100 Amateur.Expert and turned in one of the fastest times of the evening doing it. Steve Bales continues to dominate the 175-200 Amateur-Expert class and has proven that his transfer to the Amateur ranks was no fluke. Jeff Wright who doesn't usually do as well on the Perris course held in there for a strong second but just didn't seem to have the power down the straightaway to catch Steve's powerful Bul. Doug Mason again won the 250 Amateur-Expert II and posted the fastest times of the evening. Too bad Doug can't patent the line he has because he could make a fortune. Tom Heard, who blasts through the sweeper like he has a secret death wish, was second. Ken Mill.er took Division lover Bob Graves and Randy Roderick. Don't forget! There will be no mini·bike or cycle classes the night of the Old Timers Race. There will also be no entries availahle the night of the race so get your entry now if you want to get in on the fun. g: Corona TT " by ElaineJones OORONA, CAL., Sept. 20, 1972 - Big bikers Walt Foster and Mike Posey met again on the tricky Corona IT course, and this time it was a race to the finish with Walt finding his way over the jump which almost broke his neck the last time he tried it. According to reports, Walt's on a super hot win streak. He's just come back from the East where he rode eleven events and he won nine. He can add numbe.r ten to the string as he made his Wacky Rac~r practically tum cartwheels through the tricky 180 degree turns. Mike Posey was doing much the same thing but couldn't get out of the hole fast enough. Rick Marquis and Gary Kauffeld were having their own battle a little further back with Rick coming out on top in that tight duel. The crazy big bike Novices had another up-for-grahs race. At the end of the second moto, Kent Wilsdn was sitting pretty in front with Harvey Weidman in second. ROil Christner had a win in the secOJid moto but a DNF in the flTst go. You guessed it, Ron walked off with the whole ball of wax. Kent .didn't show up for the f"mal go and this dropped him to third. Harvey was second. Another anybody's race was the r--=... l 100-125cc Amateur-Expert go. The first round saw just ahout everybody fall down, except a first time out Corona Amateur, KipJ ohnston who held on to his cool and got it home first, The second round had everybody upright and charging, and it was Doug Westly who put it all together. Kip was getting his education in the pack but still managed to hang on for a fourth and he still had the point lead at this time. In moto three Westley got out on top with Terry Stanart challenging for the lead. As they came off the straigh t Terry went down causing Kip to go high and do a little moto-crossing before he could get back on the course. He came back running second but too far back to catch Doug. It was Doug first, Kip second and Rick Andersen third. Rick Younger picked up his transfer to the Amateur ranks by winning the 100cc Novice II over Ross Miller and Frank Glier. Bob Farmer showed up with a screaming 175cc Kawasaki. Riding in a combined class Bob had a second row start but ploughed through traffic to have the lead by the end of tne first lap and never gave it up. Jim Wright, another Amateur was right behind him for the second spot. ... ~~~ John Sprague. Rich Marquis. Vic Hannon, Dave Varyan, Jack McMaffeaty. et ai, at Perris.
