,);,.-, ~ ;> .... . Motocross-sponsored Maico rider who looked a lot faster on the last moto than anybody except Staten had all day. He was actually pulling away from Rex at the final checkered. Eierstedt had some very smooth lines and went around them in the lasl two mOlOS, wilh Slalen behind him. Spectacular of the day was Stalen passing Longcor over the jump lO take second behind Eiersledt. The lWo lied on poinls afler three 20-minule bashes, but Eiersledt got the 'Nerall based on his final moto win: a convi.ncing one. Bob Haag (lius) never really figured in the top runners until the last moto, when either the lack of traffic (Only eigh t started the lasl round.) or his own stamina contributed to his best ride of the day, a' lhird and a third overall, beating poin LS equals Ron S Lockman (Bul) and Morris Malone (AjS) on the basis of his last maLO perfonnance. Eierstedt's victories can be largely attributed to dynarn in te slarls and good. aggressive consistency. He is fast off the line. in the 500 class, golden-throated Bruce Flanders and mosl of the other knowledgeables were talking a 10l about Tim Hart. Tim looked to be in good shape for the overall win. The Ontario infield track was mucb like the courses he wins on every week: tigh l and flat. But jim Wilson on the Valerian's CZ won the first moto. Hart's teammate. Billy Payne, beal him also. leaving Tim third after the first leg. Wilson looked pretty strong the whole djstance. "Well. that's more like il, 1arth a. Toldyaso." Yeah, Tim Harl won lhe second 500 moLO. BUl even then, he had LO do il the hard way. When the dust settled. Payne was in fronl and looking good and qujck. In second, was the San Luis Obispo !lash, Ron Bass. Ron also !lashes oul sometimes as he was so psyched au land deluned in the first moto, he even had trouble staying on the lrack. This lime, he hung right in lhere. Hart was a long ways back from these two, then came Wilson. Payne dropped il a little past halfway, Hart closed up on Bass and passed - for first. And that's the way they came pasl the flag. Drama, tension. and excitement! Tim Hart and jim Wilson were tied up going into the last moto. CZ vs. Maico! CMC Experl vx ...well, another CMC Expert. Both lhese guys know how the other rides. They see each other a lot on the local tracks. , 'In the third ~oto showdown, Ilart pulled a patenled out-of-the-holeand-win-lhe-race shot to take the lead. Gendeman jim was a ways back bUl not out of touch. Bill Payne was in t11ird. Wilson was closing slightly when Harl's engine quit. 'Wilson, of course, went by ,. putting Payne in second and closing on "Wilson. Unlucky Tim got restarted and moved into fourth and started racing again. Then lIart's \Iaico quil for good aboul lWO laps later. ]t had drowned out in one of the two mudholes on what was basically a very dusty course. Then, surprise, Bill Payne got by Wilson and won the moLO. Bill Payne W.' -. .' • -;:-f: . , ".>?to-• I, -"}' ell (:~) W~:;E~~I;E '¥ SOLO OY BE:TTCR CYCLE STORES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. For that track, the riders that showed up were probably the besl choice to give the fans a good show. They were all al home on the artificial courses and accustome.d, if not used, to good dust.
