SANTA MARlA, CAL., Sept. 17, 1972
- Lompoc's Sue Bowen started things
off b1;' "women's libbing" her sava~e
Suzuki to a wtre to wire win over the
local powder puffers. That minature ball
of Ii!lhtning Johnny Rogers (Kaw) went
as hiS usual 100 Junior battle with Joe
Numez (Yam). Johnny won the first
mota and was consistent enough to take
the win, with Nunez second and Steve
Steward (Suz) third. Jeff Lessley (Yam)
came all the way from Earlimont to zap
the 125 Junior.
Bill Keese (Bul) won all three 125
Intermediate ~oto's over Pat Legge who
traded hIS MalcO 250 in for a DKW this
this week. Vince Clark (Suz) usually
never had ~y competition as he proved
agaIn by winning all three 125 Expert
moto's.
Probably the most exciting race of
the day was the 250 Juniors. Mike
Hampton (Mai) and Jeff Jones (Hus)
both riding. for the Stoned Valle;
Moto-X Team went at it all three motos.
Jeff would get fantastic hole-shots and
lead before Mike could get by. Mike
stoned Jeff for wins in all three motos
with Gene Kappeliar (Cl) beating Jeff
for second In the last mota - the final
tally Mike first with Jeff and Gene
second and third respectively.
S toned Valley riders again scored
with. Bob (the Toad) Swartz (Bul)
winning all three 250 Intermediate
motos. He also won two of the 250
Expert's motos. D~ve Czerwinski (Mai)
took the first SenIOr, second position
behind Swartz.
Jon Dominguez (Hus) won all three
Open Junior motos ahead of Mike
Knopf
(Hus).
In
the
Open
Expert-In termediate Bash Bob Rogers
(Cl) won all three motos for the Expert
victory. His first two motos were easy
victories, but in order to get a trophy he
must Win all three motos. Knowing this,
Bob crashed in the last mota with only
two laps to go. First Intermediate made
it hard by passing Bob, but Bob got by
for the win with Milian Garret (Hus)
First Intermediate.
