Placerville Night Motocross--- . . .~-------, N by Bruee Young PLACERVILLE, CAL., Sept. 15, 1972 - Floyd Davis of Colmans of Stockton rode his Husky to a very impressive win over all others in the Open Am-Expert combined event tonight. Floyd dominated both motos but it was in the second round that be had the crowd to its feet as he made one of the greatest rides of his tife by coming from dead last on the first lap to lrrst overall at the checkered flag. , Fluyd's teammate, Mike Jennings, did his thing tonight in the 250Am-Expert event by taking both motos easily. In the Amateur divisions of the two events it was Clifford Bailon his BSA that took the overall win in the Open. In the 250 Amateur runs it was Steve Elstins on his 250 CZ. In the 125 Am-Ex_ class it was a real race to see which 125 Expert could out run the others. In the lrrst moto it was a battle between Mike Jennings, Kevin Henry and Rick Clement. At the end of the first moto it was Kevin Henry on his Penton who came out on top. Jennings finished second. It was the same finish in the second molo to give the win to Kevin. The 125 Amateur race back in the pack was hot and heavy all the way. Mark Cibson took command in each moLO and got the overall win. Pat Wilson was stepped up to Amateur tonight and took an early lead in the Amateur part of the 125 combined, but -:t11 thp r~rr won: on Pat was passed by Eugene Motocross - - - _ ~ 0N 1;; M u o ~ w Z W ..J (,) >(,) Bill Grossi's face reflects his determination. more experienced riders. Three Novice riders shined on tonight with the 100cc Novice class being a runaway by John Boxler, on his Hodaka. from Professional Cycle Parts. Robert Cabbert tried very hard to catch John but had to settle for second overall. . The other rider that looked in command tonight in the l25 Novice_ Div. I was DKW rider Paul Hamel who took all the brass in his class. In the 125 Novice Div. II run it was Mark Johnson of Orangevale Cycle Center on his Puch who really did it to all the other 125 Novice riders in his ru n. by Janis Randall EUGENE, ORE., Aug. 27, 1972 - The Rainier Beer Championship Motocross race at Eugene went off without flaw with 200 riders and plenty of spectators to cheer these guys on. Eugene Motocross bad a purse of . 500 for Experts and they paid the first four place per moto plus overall. And, of course, the track was in perfect condition for the riders. This with some very hot weather to help sell more and more Rainer Beer, wbich is exactly what they did. Rick Burgett blasted around the track in the 125 Expert class on his Yamaha to take first overall. His job was made easier without constant presence of Ken Buirley. With two other spectator favorites Alex Mauck (Puc), and Tom Montgomery who just rides the heck out of his 1I0nda and fares ,quite well at every race, second and third in that order. The 250 Expert ~Iass saw Bill Cook (Mai), take first overall, which is expected of him since he is seventh-ranked in Ai\IA i\lotocross. 1 don't have to tell you that he put 011 a good show. But just to prove how good 16 year-old Rick Burgett is, Cook had to battle with this young rider to stay first overall, with Rick taking second and another familar, fast rider Randy Limbeck (Mai) receiving third. The Open Expert class saw four of the best top motocrossers take first, second. third, and fourth just like that. To no one's surprise Bill Cook (Mai), took first overall, but had to work and ride his bike as hard and as fast as he could, with Bob Rush (Ric), Bob Leach (Bul). and Keith Nerseth (Pen) behind him. \Vho wouldn't have to go fast with these th ree riders following beh ind? And that is the order they finished in. ft was a fast day of well-run racing, for everyone to enjoy. Eugene Motocross will have a new win ler race track on the same property. so they will have a summer track and a winter on in a month or50. \, Cal-Am Motocross - - - - - by Richard Bungay SACRA.IvIE 'TO, CAL., Sept. 14, 1972 - This Sunday again saw over 400 riders descend on Cal-Am Raceway for a fun day of racing and swimrnjng.
