The 250 GP race saw Mike Devlin on his Vesco Yamaha tum in an impressive ride on very quick motorcycle, for first place. }-lis only competition came from Steve Froschauer (Yam) who faded somewhat in the later laps. Third was Pat Evans ran and hid with the Open Formula event. Pat Evans, who closed fairly steadily but never did catch Froschauer. . Ramos' desire to be first to the first comer kept him clear, narrowly, of a phalanx of crashing three cylinder motorcycles. How it started is not quite certain, as this correspondent was too busy trying to find something to hide behind. Neverthe.less the end result put two 750 Kawasakis and a 500 out of the race and into the "crash fetcher". The other really notable performance was by Dick Fuller on a 350 Yamaha who finished first in class and third overall. Fuller came back out of the same 350 Yamaha to win the Superstreet/Thumper class, pursued by the Crossman brothers, John and B9b, 500 Suzuki and 350 Yamaha respectively. The sidecar class was especially exciting with close competition between Hummer and Gulbransen on a Harley-Davidson, McNeil and Crabb on a Honda, and father and son Bravermans on (in?) a 750 Kawasaki. The early leaders were the Honda crew, bu t on lap two the Bravermans squeaked by. Meanwhile Hummer and Gulbransen were closing quickly and soon were dogging the Kawasaki. In the end the experience of Hummer and Gulbransen showed as they pushed Braverman until he slipped. They moved by, and slowly built up a substantial lead. McNeal and Crabb who had been following at a safe distance, got back by the Kawasaki and were second to the checkered flag. After a brief dice with Reg Pridmore, Pat Evans won the hooligans race and a whopping $17. Maybe that will help him support all those motorcycles.
