Cycle registration appears to be slow, and, because of that, more time will be required for the DMV tQ implement its program of se.tting up cycle parks for public use. The only people that can stimulate its growth are you, the owner of the off road bike. If you want some place to ride, get it registered. Sears Point International (sic) RaCeway may be on its way to economic recovery. I toured the 770 acre facility last week, and it is in fine shape. The reports that the road racing surface was bad are untrue. It wouldn't take too much to put it right back into ~se ~hiIe the surrounding hillsides are Just nght for cow-trailing. The upper portion of the area seems to be ideally suited fora motocross track of a good size. Another racing complex is in the planning stage although somewhat distant to the San Francisco Bay Area. Th~derhiII Raceway in Copperopolis is getting off the ground, and the foothills of the Sierra is the site. Oakdale's Jerry Griffith has some friends that are interested in setting up a multi-purpose track that would include both nat track mile and balf-mile with ttaiIs and motocross. The events would be supplemented by road tours that end there in racing events with parties the night before, and breakfasts served in the moming. The ro.ad rider organizations are growing and WIth them the tour weekends. This type of track would help these even ts grow. In the past, few race tracks had anything to do with motorcycling and the past president of Sears Point Craig Murray, didn't even want them ~n the track. Well that has certainly changed and ~UTTay is out actively trying to orgamze events at Sears Point around motorcycling. A change in philosphy that I'm sure will begin to happen all over the country as the two wheel sport grows. The pressure is really bearing down on Mark Brelsford and his point lead. Mark was back in toW!! on business, and we had a short talk about the circuit. Because of the pressures of trying to do the best job one can on the race track and get everything working right, Mark feels that he is Dot communicating with his fellow workers and riders as he would like to. It is certainly not an unusual thing for him to feel as the pressure of being on the gun are far worse than being under the gun. For those of you that may have missed it back in February, Cycle News had a very long story about Brelsford that ~ght proved valuable to aspiring No.1 nders. Can you imagine another National series starting in November and running through February designed around the indoor circuit? Say a 12 race series covering the nation. It may just happen.
