The course has been changed sligh tly and now measures].4 miles. This was the very first motocross ever staged by the Mesa M.C. and they did an ou tstanding job. Lots of very fast riders showed up in the quest for Dist. 38 poin ts. Bill Silverthorn came out today to show that he can ride something besides the Baja and swept the Open Expert class. Mike tephenson gave him quite a battle for a while until mechanical problems dropped him to third. Ron Stacy on a Husky put on an exceptional ride for lhe second position. The 250 Expert class was one of the most thrilling for quite some time. The ground literally shook as they went -around the course in tigh t procession. Lars Larsson, DaveJohnson, Bill Urban, and Rick Pinnick were among the talen t·loaded class. In the end, it was Rick Pinnick putting together the overall win. The 125 Expert is one of the most hotly contested classes in this area and today was no exception. F'ourleen year-old Jim Royale outdistanced the rest of the class but not without a battle from Gary Askins and Jeff Foland.Jeff finished in the second slot. The Powder Puff race saw Karen Anderson grab first with Pam Niles and Dyan Johnson coming in righ t behind her. The 250 Amateur class went to Steve Pollack. Ray Surprenant and Steve Parsons finished second and third, respectively, as Steve pretty much had things to himself in first. The 125 class had James Keck 111 first. The Novice class saw the only injury of the day. as one of the riders took a spill coming out of the Hole and suffered a shoulder injury. Dick Haskell won the Open class as Paul Webster and Danny Robinson finished second and third. The 250 class had thn:e divisions today. Gary Standridge put together an excellent ride for the win in Div. One. Randy Batsell won the second Div. and Dave Phetl won the third. With only one division of 125 Novices, we had a real battle for first. Mike Grove ended up on top with Art Cratz getting second and Mike Wilson filling out the top three. The 100 Novice class was won by John Mechen. • NOW EVEN MORE TORQUE ABOUT NORTON
