~ w Z W ...J tJ > tJ By Elaine Jones PERRIS, CAL., Aug. 12, 1972 - The morning rains made the Perris track beautiful and the water truck didn't move all nigh t. Because of the point run at Elsinore, the order of the races was reversed and the Big Bikes ran first. It looked like the winners were going to be the guys who didn't break down, not necessarily the fastest. In the Am-Ex Big Bike Mota, Ron McDaniels did a super slide out in the sweeper taking a buncb of tires wi th bim. John Sandona and Jack McCafferty somehow got involved so after everybody had everything back together, the race started again. Steve Robb, a Novice only a few short mon th sago, carne from beb ind and powered his Harley to the first overall. Jack McCafferty was second and Rod Sex Lon third. Kawasaki had a good nigb L tak.ing wins in six out of the thirLeen classes. Greg Beresford started things off in the Novice Moto II taking his Big Hom righ L to the front .and keeping it there. David ALkinson and Dennis Thomas chased him around bu t could do no better than second and third. Jeff Coleman grabbed a close one from Bob Graves in the 250 Am-Ex. Jeff, also aboard a Kawasaki, was tied with Bob going into the final moLo_ Never losing his cool for a minute, he went to the front in the final go, held it and got under the wire first. Bob was second and Gary White rounded ou t the field with a third. In the 250 Novice. I, it was again Kawasaki out front with Jim Wood aboard_ Don Boon (Yam) and Dale Diable (Odd) chased him but that was about all. Danny Garcia and Jeff Pollastir, both Ossa-mounted, took Divisions II and IJI of 250 Novices.· ~teve Bales earned his Amateur rating as be won the 175-200 Class. Gary White was tied witb S Leve going into the final round but Steve, who said he had made a lot of mistakes in the second moto, settled down to pick up the win. Gary was second and Willie Hardin, third. Marc Jones ran away with the 100-125 Am-Ex Class and second and third place Ken Miller and Steve Okuda had trouble keeping him in sight. Kawasaki picked up the win in the 125 Novice 11 class with Bob Cole aboard. John Sargent took the first division and his name has been hitting the results column quite a bit so he may be getting his graduation papers in the not too distant future. Jeff Henry won the 100 Novice 1 over Greg Beresford and Jay Wagner. Rick Younger took Division n. A lot of changing of riders and ou t of class riding is going on and it's not fair. When a rider has placed very low and then all of sudden runs away from everyone in the final moto it's not too hard to figure out that a ringer has been brought in. The benefit is set for September 30th. Because of the expected turnout of old timers only 125 entries will be allowed for regular riders so get there early if you wan t to ride. !
