CHICO SIfOIT TRAcr Gbadwick'sBig Night By J obn Noffsinger CHICO, CALIF., Aug. 5, 1972 - Jim Chadwick of Chico really has his Bul taco perking in the 100 class here at Cycleland Speedway as he won both the 100 Scratch and the 100 Handicap Main. Jim must be using a new brand of bug juice as there was no denying his quest for first place. Jim took the outside line around the track in each race which really paid off for him. The pack would bunch up on the groove, and here would come Jim just sailing around everyone in the comers. Not only is his bike going faster, it even appears cleaner. Maybe he washed the bike, lost some dirt and now is 10·20 lbs. lighter. Rollen Eskew showed up hoping for dURlicate performance of last week when he won in fme style. Tonight was not Rollen night as his bike was not running right, and he fell off really hard on the back straight, reinjuring his knee. Dick Turner was back on form, especially in the events where he starts even with everyone else. Once when Del Silva of Sacramen to had his Ossa in fron t, Dick tried to pass on the outside and was pushed into the fence. Darned if Dick didn't come back and pass in exactly the same place the very next tum. That Triumph Dick rides sure does sound torquey ou t there and differen t from the scads of two·strokes running around. Jug. Moore's little boy, Keith enjoyed himself in the 200 Handicap fmal. He lost his righ t footpeg and had to ride with his right foot on his motor mount. It took awhile before he got the hang of it, however the last two to three laps must have been rjgh~ as he passed on the outside with the gas screwed on and proceeded to zap the ,boys in the event and gathered first place. ci ::l « ~ w Z W ..J tJ >tJ ,..• Jim Chadwick gets a bit sideways at Chico's short track. Maybe District 37 officials can give him a hreak. Takes all sorts of trouble and a lot of money to get through red tape for an outsider to ride amateur even ts. The program was invaded by riders from Salinas. Maybe something to do with Steve Pestoni winning the races at Santa Rosa. In the amateur race, at least four trophy winners were from Salinas with Greg Dahl taking a fust place in the 125 Novice final. After watching Dian Cox at Santa Rosa, it is doubtful that any California girls would be competitive against her . Maybe Debbie J ackline or Shela Dolcini or the speedway rider, Theresa Martin. by J ames Brammer SANTA ROSA, CAL., Aug 5, 1972 Russell Powell has been away from amateur racing for two years to support pro racing. Manuel Dotson arrived in the first comer on the outside and then fell in line behind Powell for the remaining laps of the race. Larry Drew, on a back row start, moved to third.
