EXPOSED REASO Bruce WilS on' the prettiest, neatest, most sano-Jooking, little 125 Honda imaginable. This little 125 XR Honda really is a little jewel. It took Charlie four and three/quarter laps to catch and finally pass Bruce, but one thing that should be kept in mind was that, this was the very first ride on the Honda for the Westminister Expert, Bruce Baron, ana it got n,m m tor second overall. Charlie got the first overall, winning the next two 125 Expert motos. The way Charlie has been going, Fred Hays of Mettco Penton has to be all smiles. Bill Payne on· a Rickman picked up the show spot, rounding out the finishing order for the 125 Experts. By now, 1 imagine everyone knows that Bob Hosford had a little run-in with the gods of fire last week, but it didn't cost him enough of his golden locks to keep the pit tootsies from flocking around the good looking and personable Honda hotshoe. The crowds of well wishers and admirers of the bird variety increased by the square when Bob took the Bill Bell constructed, Long Beach sponsored Honda to very, very convincing wins over Tim Hart in the first two for the 250 Experts. Bill Bell is constan t1y looking for the very , best combination of horsepower, weigh t and handling, and every week shows more improvement for this potent four stroke. Bill now has the Honda po:wer reposing in a Redline frame and the weigh t is righ t down to two hundred twenty five pounds. Since the fust day that his Honda appeared on the track, there has been steady and dramatic improvement in handling, horsepower, and reliability. With the expertise that Bill Bell displays, and his long history and vast storage of scooter knowledge, one can only expect further improvements. The god of fire that touched Hosford earlier passed his wand of bad luck on to the god of racing. The god of racing reached out wi,th the wand and tapped Bob on the shoulder once more. In the third and final 1I10to, with two firsts to Tim Hart's two seconds, Bob Hosford had to put the Honda on its side to avoid center punching another rider who crossed right in front of him. By the time he restarted, he was a full lap down and finished dead last. Tim Hart took the win in the final moto and first overall, Hosford had to settle for second overall. CZ mounted Jim Wilson put forth a great amount of effort to finish third overall. '" Bill Payne (who is engaged to be married or estranged from his bird, depending on which rumol'S you listen to) fmished third in the 125 Experts Bill and Tim were never more than a bike length apart, many times side by side. When the checker fell, it was Payne by a half a bike length tor a final overall '" fmish of Payne, Hart and Bean. ~ Motocross racing excitemen t is again part of the Ascot scene and deservedly ~ so! ~ w ..J '-' '-' >- aboard a Rickman to come back and defeat Tim Hart and Cliff Bean in the 500 Expert division for a clean Maico sweep of the class. Hart won the first moto with Payne second, and then it was'Payne, Hart, and Bean in the second moto, setting up a final moto dual for the first overall spot. From gate drop to flag fall, Tim Hart, the Valentine Kid, did everything but throw rocks at Payne to try to get around him.
