No, Johnson, the wheelie contest is over. This is the start of the Expert Final. Vallejo Short Track - - - - - Antioch Short Track----- By James Brammer VALLEJO, CAL" Aug. 5, 1972 Speedy Bruce Hanlon bagged the first place points from a 30·rider 250 Expert class Amateur short track by the Solano Trail Riders at Vallejo Speedway. He took four laps in the final to wrangle the lead from Larry Drew. Then, he rapidly placed a wide safety margin between his leading position and the pack before slowing down taking the remaining laps of the race casually. Meanwhile, other challengers were poking front wheels at Drew. First, Bill Calicura and then Kent Johnson, but neither passed. Where they failed, Charles Kole was successful for second place position and on the final lap Dennis Robinson squeezed by on the outside in the south comer of the fmal lap to fmish third. The 250 Junior final was restarted four times with John Guglielmetti getting the lead on the first three. He had a bad star! on the fourth and the race was on with Mike Lane coming from second to win. Guglielmetti didn't go home empty handed though for he had already won a good race with Ron Sarver for first in the 125 Junior-Expert class. Rod Marble won the 125 Novice class from Frank Crane while John Crljenko from San Francisco ran third. Vemon March from the Richmond Ramblers won his fourth 250 Novice Main with Lenny Soderquist in second. There is no relationship between the Ed Clark who fmished third in that class and the Ed Clark in second spot of the 100 Novice fmal. By Bill Spencer ANTIOCH, CAL., July 30, 1972 - The Annual Antioch Short Track Fair had its most successful afternoon despite some operations that left a few exasperated riders winded. The heroes of the afternoon turned out to be two riders who helped put the show together. The number one racer in the District, Jim Foley, and Mike Kenyon went to work and as the features lined up, the packed house ~em to come to attention. Larry Ostarello led off the 250 Novice Main with his H-D Sprint but it couldn't hold off the advances of Mike Clancy. Clancy looked more like an Expert when he got into the lead and was a full straight in front at the checkered. Larry held onto second over Marv Remakel'and Vern March, both of the Richmond Ramblers M.C. In the 250 Junior Main, Mike Kenyon got off the line fust and wasn't seen for the rest of the race. The little brother of National 48 displayed some real heads , up racing and kept it in the groove as the track started to break up under the heat of the day. While feet-up slides are Mike's specialty, he could only get in a few' early in the day when the track was shaped. For the 250 Expert Main, it was a battle off the start line as the track had disrepaired itself so that little passing , was possible. In the heats, Phil Anderson bad been the man off the line and he won over Foley but the big number pla.te got the jump in the Main and that was all she wrote. NAME.
