This Carlsbad round brought in some super sensational 250 Seniors making a good story for any reporter. The contest was mainly between Jim Wilson - a racer from Valerian's Cycle Center; Greg Robertson - the 16 year old wonder and Peter Maly - the guy who runs Coast Moto Cycle and is giving away that sharp looking J awa/CZ motocross machine. These three racers proved their C Z rigs in heavy Senior competition and ended up in that order smoking the other bikes all the way. Wilson and Robertson were deadly threats to each other and would switch now and then between the first and second place positions while Maly was just a place behind, right on the leaders' tails. The four top placing 250 Intermediate racers were doin' fine but were easily detected from the fireball Seniors who play the motocross game all day without being touched by any of the Intermediates. Allen Ortiz (Mail. John Isitt (Hus), Jason Yodogawa (Yam) and Steve Bebeck racing on a CZ made the scene in the lrrst four overall positions. Winning the 125 Senior class race came a very punchy Carabela 125. Rich Eristedt was right in there' with a solid second place finish and immediately the bench racers started speculating on the outcome of the third and final moto. I've seen close races bu t these two guys were like Siam.ese twins as they gassed it around the demanding track. With about two minutes to go Staten opened up a three second margin (some margin) and then a combination of the long hot day and the very aggressive riding by Staten began to tell as Eirstedt fell slightly off the pace and from there it was Staten's turn as he got the hard earned victory and the S108 purse. So it turned out to be not such a bad day after all. Ray Lopez (Bul) and Terry Clark (H-D) in the 125 Senior class had ·the same sort of situation as the 250 Seniors did as they each held a first and second going into the Tmal moto. In the third moto they fought back and forth and then Lopez started slowing which gave the win to Clark and his super-quick Baja: ):>.i"111crCr~_1 "J ·6'~1 .., .ijftf~.~C22 0(. .!~b I ql 9) .("I. ... t.q 11 .PC-V' ,t I; I JI 1831 ARTESIA 8LVD .•GAROEfoiA CA.~0247PHONE(2'313274t"SJ .'" . The outcome wasn't too surprising for the afficionados who have followed this series. Kim Reeg, one of the more outstanding new Northern California riders walked away with the series trophy for the 100 Novice class. Doug Veerkamp a local rider, securely cinched the 125 Novice class after a series of fine performances. Rounding out the 125 class, Mike Hart a relative newcomer but consisten t placer, wrapped up the 125 Amateur class and Danny Turner secured the 125 Expert standinR'. 250 Novice honors went to another local favorite, Jerry Visman. John Cooper walked off with the 250 Amateur honors and Scott Pepper landed the 250 Expert standings with his usual show of fine performances. Open Novice honors went to Lowell Spiva. The Open Amateur series trophy was packed home by Jess Hinrichs. Both of these fellows turned in consistent first place wins and there was no doubt of the eventual series results. Mother Lode Motocross---- 111ut-uuttle se~: Sport has even entered AME motocross action and luckily was raced by Bob Brooks for a Tme first place overall win. Frank Rowe on his full race Yamaha 125 flew as fast as anyone =d looked like a sure bet for the first place position but unfortunately dropped down on the resul ts to take second, followed by Greg Rader (Pen) and Bruce Wygal on a Bul. Jack Hazard, after hangin' in the tough action of the 125 Intermediates week after week, finally stole a first place win above the Puch of Vince Blach to stop cold the third and four place finishers Dale Walter and Tim Daily both on Rickman 125s. Adding onto the already startling AME racing lineup will be several big additions for all you racers who are willing to travel to different tracks, yet unwilling to have to start up new memberships with different clubs. Starting in August, on the fourth Sunday of the month from then on, all racers will have their choice of racing at either Saddleback or on the European track at Carlsbad. Starting in September and on the second Sunday of the month from then on, all racers will be eligible to race at Saddleback or at the new Arroyo motocross track. According to official.
