In the first moto Lee Rumph (BuI) took the lead, followed by Gary Chaplin (Mail. Jack Borg (Bul), DeWayne Jones (Yam) and Barry Higgins (Yan). Chaplin and Borg both passed Rumph and moved out on the pack. They finished one-two, while Rumph and Higgins had troubles that put them in the consy. Jones finished third and Dennis Law (Mai) was fourth. MOLO/Qualifier two held the excitement as Rick Graszl (Mai) and Wyman Priddy (CZ) stoked the crowd. Priddy took the early lead but Graszl piped him quickly. Priddy regained first at about the halfway mark,but Graszl took it back. Through the whoop-dees and traffic on the last lap, Graszl still held the lead. In the sweeper before the big jump before the finish line, he looked back to see Priddy coming up. They hit the jump side by each. but Priddy jumped further faster and took the flag. Bob Ismailof (Mai) was third. In the consy, it was Lee Rumph (BuI) again and Bob Grodzinski (Hus) at the head of the field. Grodzinski held in second the whole way, until the last lap when he passed Rumph for the win. Steve Zitzer (Mai) was third, Barry Higgins fourth. The Open Final saw Priddy and Chaplin out front, building a lead over the field. Rick Graszl and Gary Ingham (Mai) led the next contingent, followed by Barry Higgins. Chaplin took the lead about halfway through and wasn't seriously challenged. In the final 500 standings it was Chaplin.
