On the Expert course, Larry Pfutzenreuter (Bul) grabbed an early lead and just kept stretching it out. By the end of the fourth lap, Pfutz was half a mile ahead of suond place Wes Anderson, Jr., (CZ). As Pfutz went by the smoke bomb for the last time he gestured at his front tire which was flat, but he had too good a lead to give it up and continued in for the win. Dave Hernandez (Yam) and Steve Holliday (Yam) battled it out for third, finishing in that order with Jim Fishback hot on their heels. Jim did a super get-off on the way to the smoke and managed to move up from 58th to hold onto the number five spot. Tom WidiCK (Yam) was first 250 Amateur at 13th overall. Mike Cartledge (Hod) led the Trail Am-Ex race for awhile, but Larry Roesler (Baj) took over the lead and again, at the finish, a half mile separated him from second place Terry Harris (Baj) with Mike fmishing third. Steve Alley (Hod) was first Amateur at 10th overall. Gene Cannady (DKW), carrying pie plate number 121, held a lteated battle for first Div II Lightweight Expert with Brent Wallingsford (ass). The lead changed hands several times, but Gene had it where it counted. It looked like Rick Jensen (DKW) was third overall • and first Amateur. It was starting to warm up a little when the 400 Am·Ex went off at 11:00. J.N. Roberts (Hus) was running in the dust at about tenth place at the bomb, but coming around the second time, J.N. had taken over the lead and already had several \lundred yards ahead of Jack Knebel (CZ) and Gene Walker (Kaw). On the fourth go-round, J.N. was riding like he was all alone. He had increased his lead so much that he could have stopped for a beer and still won it. George Walker had moved up to second place, then back to fourth and finally out, leaving J.N. with a fantastic lead for first. Fifth overall and first Amateur was Todd Cornish (Hus) who rode hard and finished well against a field of more seasoned riders.' Second Amateur at eighth overall was Kelly Sullivan who is rumored to be riding an O'Husky. Gino Beattie (Hus) took ninth overall in his second Am. ride. All the action was on the Novice course today according to Rescue Three. Lightweight Div I Novice Dennis Carlisle (Hus) had it together for the win in his class. Trail Novice Phil Harvey got another transfer ride today as he piloted his Rickman in for first place. J _ Jenkins (Baja) got second. These Trail Novices probably deserve more credit than the bigger bikes because you really have to keep them screaming' to get over some of the courses. -37 f J.N. Roberts on his street legal (7) Husky. He could only manage an easy first, on his front wheel. J .. . ' Gene Cannadv (OKW), riding pipeplate, took his class in one of hi, infrequent 0-37 desert runs.
