HOPETOWN THIS WEEKEND ~ w Z W ...J t) >t) This Saturday and Sunday the rocky hills around Simi Valley, northwest of Los Angeles, will shake to the beat of the annual Dirt Diggers M.C. Grand Prix Classic. Saturday will feature the mass starts of hundreds of 0-250cc bikes and the ever·lovin· Powder Puff ladies. Sunday is the big 251 cc-to-open racing day plus the sliding, exciting sidehacks. Prize money is impressive and from England, Vic Eastwood and Mike Jackson, on their 410cc AJSs, will be out to take it away from the local guys. Racing begins at 8 :30 both days and runs till the sun goes down. Better get there early to stake a. claim at the famous Dirt Digger's Mud Hole. Go west on Simi Freeway to Keuhner Ave., then south. Admission is $3 for big people, $! for little people from 8 to 12 years. Read all abou t it in Cycle News next week. Perris Holds Halloween 'Girlie' Night By Elaine Jones PERRIS, CAL., Oct. 30, 1971 - It was girlie night at Perris with the National Number Powder Puff riders showing up to do their thing. On hand was Carlotta Got-A-Lot from the Virgin Island, Jamey Blunt holds To;"acina Jones' bike while "she" is interviewed by Geraldine, "The devil made me do it" Burton. . Tomasina Jones and Kentrina Conover to mention a few. The starter for the evening was Geraldine "the Devil made me do it" Burton. What it all boiled down to was a bunch of groovy Dads, who watch their kids race every week, getting dolled up .to give everyone a good laugh for Halloween. By the way they weren't a bad looking bunch of broads ang even their living bras stayed alive for the race. Tomascina Jones and Kentrina Conover came across the line in almost a photo finish and Carlotta Got-A-Lot came up with a bad case of frost bite. The Amateur/Expert Open moto has a tight race going for the Perris Heavyweigh t Perpetual Trophy. Both Vince Graves and Walt Foster were tied fpr first up until Saturday, but Walt did some smart riding that brought him home first with Vince hot on his tail. The win put Walt in the lead but the season isn't over yet. Tad Willis was third. Walt has also become a T.V. personality. Riachrd Walden ADELANTO, CAL., Oct. 31, 1971 The Hi Desert Racing Association held another European Scrambles on Halloween Day. These people always manage to draw a good crowd of top riders due to their organized races and well marked course. Today was no exception. The first race of the day started at 9 a.m_ sharp. It was the 100cc class_ After a long absence from the desert it was nice to see Don Eide, teamed with a Hodaka built and tuned by Jack Morgan. lead the race from start to finish_ He' was followed in by a fast, moving G. Little (Hod) and E. Scheidler (Yam). The 125cc class was exciting with the winner T. Novoak on a good sounding Yamaha; second place going to D. Hetherington (Yam)_ Third placer was M. Lee, last month's winner, working up from dead last after fouling a plug on the line. He was also Yamaha mounted. The 250cc top honors went to R. Musie (Bul), S. Bebeck (CZ) and T. Garrett (Yam). The Open class was won by M. Payse (Hus), second place D. Breker and third, J- Harwood. Brek,,!" had the lead for the fmt two laps, then Payse took over and held a comfortable lead until the last lap when Breker pulled up to what was almost a photo fmish. Because of the big races at the cnd of the month, Hi Desert will have their next race ov. 14. You may pick up your trophy then. The show is due to be aired Nov. 22. Doug Mason had all kinds of competition in the 250 Amateur/Expert go but he still has the track wired. Rick Hutchins took advantage of Cary Tanner's bike problems to nail down the second spot. Cary managed to hold on to third with a little help from his friend, Tom Heard. Tom decided to play crash and pulled a super spectacular In the sweeper during the last moto. At 6 ft. 4 inches tall it's pretty hard to do anything quietly. Craig Johnson came through with a long sought after win in the 250cc Novice class. Craig has been righ t in there every week but somehow something always happened to blow it. This week- it clicked and a happy guy collected his trophy. David Menzimer and Norm Blake were second and third. Doug Mason was the guy who finally broke Paul Lambert's win streak in the 125cc Amateur/El'pert class. Doug had had problems with his 125cc Bultaco but by the way he ran Saturday the bugs are out and second place Lambert is going to have his work cut out for him. Shawn Huffman is looking at a Perris Amateur rating as he ran away from Jim Johnson and Howard Kline in the 125cc Novice go. Steve Bales realized his dream as he won the 100cc Amateur/Expert moto over defending Ultraligbtweight Hi-Point champ, Mike DuBont. Gongratulations to Carolyn Burton and Vince Graves who became Mr. and Mrs. on Nov. 5. All the riders and your friends wish you much happiness.
