The On'tario event will now become a mainstay on the National circuit and the unofficial word is that the event will be moved to February instead of running in October. This means that all of those that missed the greatest road race ever can corne to Ontario in a few short months and see a rematch. The battle was a tight one as John Hateley and Sonny Burres went down to the wire in an almost photo finish with Burres getting the winning nod. Don Castro • * 272 Corona, Calif., July 31 T ernpers flared stemming from a poor start in the Expert Semi and it appeared that Gene Romero took over the points lead as Dick Mann was unable to transfer to the Main. Mann, and several other riders protested the start, and it was later decided that all the riders who failed to transfer to the National Half-Mile would receive points anyway based upon how they fmished in the Semi. Jim Odom battled the groove track tenaciously with Mark Brelsford for the lead and won his second National of the year. Tragedy struck in the Junior class wJ:len Loyal Penn was fatally injured when run over in a first-turn pileup. Jim Rice's sixth overall was his best showing in a road race all season.
