PI. Richmond Reopens with Scrambles ~ By Bill Spencer RICHMOND, CAL., Oct. 3, 1971 Returning to the Point Richmond club grounds for the 1lrSt time in over a year, the Richmond Ramblers M.C. were deluged with more than 300 entries. Some recent cancellations were part of the cause but just the fact that the old club grounds were open again brought out some of the old timers. The reasons given for the reopening were sketchy but it appears that the more than 20 years of use of this land has some sort of precedence and with the legal battle to continue in the courst later in the month the outcome will have definite impac·t on the overall motorcycling world. The fact still remains that the land is open and being used and it appears that it will remain open and the Richmond club will use it for club functions and races. The name given to this first event was the First Annual Bucky Wooten Memorial, for a club member, and for the featured event, both Jim Foley and John Gennai were in attendance and doing their th'ing. In the eight·lap 250 Main Event, Foley grabbed the early lead but Gennai was just too fast. In the old man's class, more normally known as the Open Expert, Jim Saitone beat out Bill Verbiscio. Jim led the Western states in AMA high point in the 500 class early in the year and took his brand new 400 Maico to an undisputed 1lrSt after a couple of restarts. Jackie Paro had the first race won and was ready to quit when it was red flagged. "Biscuits" Verbiscio rode an exceptionally good race and considering his age, he is doing very well. Actually it's all in fun for Bill is in great shape and he and Saitone put on a great show that the younger guys would find hard duplicating. "Biscuits" is responsible for putting many a racer on the scene and such names as Brelsford and Lackey have worn his Cycle Town colors.
