N 1 ., u a ~ W Z WElL WAILS WHILE REST WALLOW WHEN RAI By Tod Rafferty Cycle News East UNADILLA VALLEY, N.Y., Oct. 10, 1971 - For the second week running, rain turned the Trans-AMA series into a soggy struggle with the elements. There w -' u NAME THE BABY '10 > u Hy OU never see me crossed up, especially since I've won 'Lynch City' two years running. I like racing against the best but I've never been across the Atlantic. I hope to beat the best soon, like my teammate on the 4th." Perhaps this week's BABY PRO has said too much, but that's OK because we expect to get a l6t of right and wrong answers anyway. We learned a lot from our first BP contest so we'll be changing the rules this time. Entry deadline is Thursday, Oct. 21, at midnight and all correct entries will be put into a huge vat for a drawing to be held Monday, Oct. 25. This will give everyone an equal chance at winning not just those in SoGa!. Also, limit of one name per card or letter and it must be spelled correctly. With nearly 100 entries, the 250 National class had to be divided into two heats, a consolation, and a final. Five minutes into the first moto, fully half the 250 field was bogged down in the much on the steepest hill. so the support riders unwillingly became the comic relief for the rain·soaked spectators. The humor was undeniable; some riders had to pause for a giggle break to watch their colleagues stippin' and slidin'. Th e left side 0 f Mud Mountain was a stand os small trees and bushes where the erosion wasn't so bad. This soon became the primary detour and the challenge was dodging photographers and spectators. AFter two motos the officials decided to re-route the course,'since the riders were doing it anyway. The 250 results are still unofficial at this writing, but it seems certain that Maicornan Tim Hart of Torrance, Calif., took first overall with a win in moto 1 and a second place in the final. Hart was listed as first in the final RO, but Gary Chaplin (Mai) fmished in front only to discover that he'd been without a scorer all day. Dick Burleson won moto 2 and finished behind Hart in the final, and DeWayne Jones took two thirds. So, unofficially, it's Hart then Burleson, then Jones for top three overall. Scoring the 500 International class was a bit less difficult.
