Joe Henry (Bul) took the 250 Scratch Main and placed second in the 250 Handicap Main working his way through traffic. Bob Krajarek (Yam) looked very good however, as he held first place from the first comer to the last. . Local Jeff Damon also took two first places while riding a newer Bultaco. The added power appeared to leave him more to play with while holding off Jim Hubbard (Suz) in both the 200 Handicap Main and the 200 Scratch Main. As the season is nearing its end there is a very small point spread between riders for season high point trophies. Sales'" Service custom work'" all makes i By John Duncan POWELL, WYO., Aug. 20, 1971 About 100 riders entered the motocross today, accredited to a lack of advertising and other events being held that same weekend. Both A and B riders were combined in all classes without any objection from the B riders. _ The course consisted of many jumps and some sharp turns and 'one fairly long straight section. Also included was one large, deep, waterhole which later turned into one large, deep, mudhole. Before the race a few riders jokingly threatened not to race unless a lifeguard was stationed at the waterhole. The entire course was by the grandstands and the spectators had an ex.cellent view. The racing started at noon with the 100 class going first. Val Piando won the first moto on his Hodaka but in the last two mo tos Jim Johnston came on strong on his Hodaka to win both of them and to take first overall. The competition had been pretty close in all classes but it was not the same story in the 251-Open class when Irvin Corkhill fired up his big Husky and blew the other riders off in the weeds in every moto to take first place. . A special event was held which was called a Scoop Shovel race in which a rider pulls his teammate who is aboard a large scoop shovel for about 200 yards. Bruce Mennell and Jim Johnston were the winners of the event. Thrash gave it all he had and passed Fred when both were overtaken by Crivello on the tum. This was Pugh's and Thrash's first race in the Amateur division. Amateur David Cherry really poured it on in the 350-0pen Amateur/Expert Main when Expert Stormy Winters came up from fourth position to pass Gerald Bergquest .and Clarence Oliver in the third lap. Expert Glen Adams (N or) had fast qualifying time at 16.26 but Ed Herrmann (Tri) went all out tonight and collected the win in both the Trophy Dash and Main. Ed was hard pressed by Jimmie Smith (Tri) and Ike Reed (Tri) throughout the Main but neither of them could get by. Randy Scott (Tri) picked up all the marbles in the Junior class once again this week. Tony Perella (Nor) finished second in the heat race but was smoking badly and had to drop out of the Dash. He came back to place second in the Main. In the Novice class Steve Baker (Yam) added to his point lead by placing first in his heat, then the Trophy M Trail Nov.
