SACRAMENTO, CAL., Aug. 27, 1971 - The entire Fishburn racing team of our top speedway racers came up to steal the show. But some ask how could they lose with so many brothers to compete against at one time. The'other riders really thought they were seeing double on the track because all the "brothers four" wear grey racing leathers and helmets. John Fishburn led the field during the Scratch Main Event and his brother Gery finished third. Sandwiched in between was our own local favorite rider Mike Rooney who finished second overall. Mike won his heat race and the Scratch heat as well as the Scratch semi final. The match race of the night was between Dave Gifford and Les Chanky of Lancaster, Calif. They really put up a race until Dave was able to take the lead and win. ToniR!> t's races were quite an upset for many of the riders that come up to Cal Expo each week from Southern DOUBLE WINNERS NOT ABUNDANT By N. A. Williams CLACKAMAS, ORE., Aug. 28, 1971 With a turnout of 122 riders it was surprising that the races were run off with only one injury that we know of. Ron Bell (Suz) went down in the 100cc semi and was thought to have broken his right leg. He was taken to the hospital to be x·rayed. Donnie Denny' (Yam) had a double win in the Beginners class, winning both the Dash ·and A Main. The other classes were not so predictable, with one rider taking the Dash and another the A's top spot. Henry Schram (Tri) won all three legs of the Open class motocross to take fust place in that class with Larry Fotheringi1l (Tri) second and Jimmy Tallman (Tri) third. Maybe it is because they are building for the Northern Calif. Championships to be held Sept. 3 here at this track. They seem to have learned quite a bit about the track and speedway racing as a whole in the short season that was started weeks ago. (Results on page 28)
