Porter 20 Deadman's Throws a Real Fun Day By Dave Brown APPLE VALLEY, CAL., Aug. 28, 1971 - This weekend was not· a normal weekend for the races at Deadman's Point but promoter Bob Dresslar decided to have a race anyway. Everyone raced for 50 percent brass, and they held a small field day afterwards. Young Lee Peterson gave up his big bike ride to ride his Yamaha Mini Enduro to the undisputed win in the minbike class. He was handicapped half a lap and still captured the win. Charlene Higgins returned with her DKW to capture the win in the Powder Puff class. The 125 Intermediates saw newcomer J. Hrynkiewicz put it on the regulars and come out a winner. Not bad for his Irrst Intermediate ride. Mark Tyer brought his CZ out for the first time and captured the 125 Senior brass. Mark rides out of the Bike Shop in Anaheim and apparently they know how to make them go quick. After the races, the field day included a slow race and a boot race which were both won by M. Malocco on his Yamaha, and also a wheelie contest, which was won by an unidentified CZ rider. He sure did some nice controlled wheelies, whoever he was. The next race after presstime will be September 19th. Come out and enjoy the races and stick around for awhile afterwards for the band and dancing. It makes for an enjoyable Sunday. IF YOU WEAR A HELMET, WHY DON'T YOU HAVE 'MEDICARD? Shay Rompell has been kicking around the desert a long time and knows the trouble riders get in. There are no two bodies alike and when one has been badly mistreated as a result of error·in-judgment, it often cal1s for special treatment involving medication, notification of relatives, and so on. Which brings us to Medicard.' Rompell, and no one else but, has designed a tag that can be easily carried by anyone. It can contain heaps of vital information that Rescue 3 or other' helpful souls may use in case you are a bit under the weather. It costs a dollar but clubs can order them in quantities at considerably less cost. Medicard comes complete with a card, a transparent plastic tag, a chain, and two "Medicard" stickers to put on your helmet so people .know to look for it. We recommend you replace the chain with a piece of leather or a strong little plastic tie. Other than that, keep it in a conspicuous place and ride your brains out. Everyone will feel better about it. Endorsements: J.N. Roberts, Shay's neighbor and pal, got the very Irrst one made. Mert Lawwill and Steve McQueen found out about them last weekend and now swear by Medicard. Order from 9250 Del Arroyo Dr., Sun Valley, CA 91352. Be sure to say thanks.
