won the 200 event with little or no heat
from opposing riders.
That wasn't the case, however, in
250 event. Personable Jim Evans, who is
beginning to come on strong as a road
racer, got underway with'. a really
"out-of-sight" start and had strapped a
ten-second lead on the rest of the field
crossing start/finish 0ll the first lap. Pat
Evans, in the meantime,' had gotten a
poor start and then was held up further
by a couple of back markers. But this
young man doesn't know the meaning
of the word quit, began to slowly cut
into Jim's lead with _his potent 250
the
CARLSBAD, CAL., Aug. 22, 1971 -A
coupLe of the promising youngsters on
the road racing scene, Pat Evans of
Grossmont, Calif. and Jim Evans of San
Bernardino, Calif. (no relationship) put
on a good show at the ACA road races
today.
In the 125 Senior Grand Prix, Pat
spent the entire race playing tag with
Steve Froschauer with Steve taking the
win by a smidgeon. It took some fifteen
minutes, before the start/finish line
judges decided the winner. Young Evans
Tall. lanky Mike Devlin can't be stopped aboard his Yamaha RS. a production machine that he
also races in the Grand Prix classes with a degree of success.

ADELANTO, CAL., Aug. 22, 1971 - It
was 10:45 a.m. as a beat-up old pickup
truck came sauntering up the pit road.
Inside were two obviously confused
young fellers with a pair of slightly used
trailbikes on the back. They viewed the
pit area with slightly more than a dozen
vehicles and asked wistfully, "Isn't there
supposed to be a race here today?"
This incident managed to tell the best
part of the story as the second
Early-Bird Hare Scrambles did the deed
of getting eve,rybody home from the
