Gary Scott came in riding a I5-in-a-row undefeated win streak, just one away from a tie of the all time Junior record. First Denny Kanegae topped Scott in time trials for fast honors aboard the Dobbins Triumph. Then the two met in the heat race. It was one of the best duels ever with the lead changing six times before Denny bounced his way past to win the event by leu than a feet and do wbat few, if any. Junion have been able to do against Scott on a half mile this season. Scott was mad enough in the main event, so it appeared, to take the lead and run away from Kanagae and Ron Mooce for his ninth straight main event win at Ascot against the second year pros. The one-two Novice feature was again Scott Brelsford over Steve Nicbols for the ump teenth time th is leason. The two Yamaha riders again out-distanced a good field of fint year talcnt on the 250's and again proved they are the beat there is in Novice half mile racing. A confirmed repon was given during the race that the injured Chuck Hart is well on the road to recovery and trying to talk the doctor into letting him out of the Gardena hospital. He tried for a shon leave to watch the races last week but will have to wait until this coming Friday night. In the meantime his sponor, Dick Keirn, is looking for a rider to take over the 650 Yamaha until Chuck returns to racing action. On the third and final loop Winchell took the win with Darnell taking second. After a short wait the trail bikes began to come in for the finish. After what appeared to be a bad crasb at the smoke bomb, No. 852 Curtis Martin managed to get restarted and came in for the win. Curtis was riding one of thOI hot little Baja'i. Second trail was Lee Caldwell on a Bul while third went to Paul Brown (Hod). Today's race was won by Darnell, still on a Husky, followed by C. Carr (Hus) and B. Reynolds (Bul). First 125 was F. Keepers (Ric), ahead of G. Souza (Yam) aDd C. Spurney . . (Yam). The trailbike class was won by L. Mayer. riding a well tuned Honda, with J. Robinson and M. Gilbert both on Hodakas right behind. The Ponderosa hare scrambles are held the first weekend of every month, IS mites East of Lancaster on Ave. J. The course consisu of three nine mile loops. It's challenging but not impossible, even the slowest novice can finish it. Trophies are given to 40% of the entries in each of the three classes, trail bike, 125, and Open class. The Ponderosa Inn provides cold beer and food at moderate prices. There is racing on both days which makes for a very enjoyable weekend of racing. The high poin t rider for both days will receive a fun coverage McHai helmet.
