ADELANTO, CAL., Aug. 8, 1971 Into the life of every desert racer a little
dust must blow. But this weekend was
utterly ridiculous! That region around
Adelanto where the Masterlinks threw
their Hare Scrambles is so dry and dusty
that a jackrabbit leaves a dust trail that
can be seen for 20 miles. And there was
virtually no breeze. The fJrst bikes to
fJre up on Sunday generated a pall that
hung over the camp until the start. Then
the Experts took off.
Immediately, the smokebomb was
obscured and it stayed that way for
almost 20 minutes. By the time the
Novices had gone, a sizable quantity of
the desert was airborne and it's not
likely to come to rest until Monday.
The dust was so thick that one rider
