NORTH BA YM.C. Bellina Sweeps Sporty Forties DONATES $J4(JO By James Brammer SANTA ROSA, CAL., June 26, 1971 Mike O'Brien, pulling wheelies out of the comers on a hard packed surface at the Chris Beck Arena, won the 250 Expert final in the North Bay Motorcycle Club's third Amateur short track program of the year. The previous winner Fenn Pervier held strong for second while Breen Hofman passed Ron Davis for third. On an exciting machine set up for speedway style short track with a Triumph engine, Greg Ferguson from West Sacramento, riding in speedway stayIe, easily won the 250 Novice final. Another Triumph from West Sacramento mounted by Jeffrey Sierck fmished third in the same race breaking Bultaco's hold on the 250 class. John Taylor moved up from fourth to win' the 125 Novice Main taking the lead from Ron Baxman with 2 laps remaining. During intermission, Mary Kice, the head teacher from Grace Reese Development Center for Handicapped Minors accepted a check of over S1400 from the North Bay Motorcycle Club representing the proceeds from a benefit short track program of May 15. (Results on page 28) By Gary Deaton SALINAS, CAL., June 20,1971 - Dave Bellina swept the 40-inch class in the Competition M.C. of Salinas' second race of the season. The club has a super-fast track, but for the second time in as many races the tum9ut was poor. The race was run motocross style again with three heats in each class. Keeping track of winners got confusing at times but no one could confuse the winner of the combined 650cc class. Bellina had to work for his win though as he started the first heat from the penalty line thirty yards behind the pack. Bellina finally worked his way through the rest of the pack just a lap and a half from the finish and won pulling away. The third heat found Dave getting a bad start and going into the first tum in fifth place only to exit the turn in second place. Dave passed Sunny McCollough before the lap was over and it was all over for the rest of the riders as he pulled further away with each lap. Dave is a great 'showman sliding all over the track, including the straights. (Results on page 28) ~ w Z W ..J U > U Junior), Randy won his heat, the dash, and finally, the 10-lap finale, edging out Don Lipp (Yam) in a very close finish. As might be expected, Graham Novice point leader Steve Baker (Yam) took the win in the eight-lap Novice Main Event, but he did it the hard way. After falling in the fourth lap of his heat, Steve got up and finished well enough for a last row position in a Novice semi, where he took a first. In the Main it took Steve three laps to come from the back row to the number one spOL Sam Martin (Bul) squeezed out a win over Jim Pomeroy (Bul) in the Novice Trophy Dash.
