.. Il) '" i' Kenney's Near Win From 4000 miles across the Atlantic, this is Snowflake bringing you the latest on AMXT news. Bryan Kenney, affectionately known as myoId man, raked in a seventh and a sixth place overall in two recen t me etings in France. In the last race only a 'three ~ .... ~ ~ M laps to go' electrical problem kept us from a spectacular third moto win! I would really have luxuriated in those extra bones! Our first event, Sens, is a narrow, rocky course that threads in and out of a stone quarry and quite naturally includes a couple of abrupt drop-offs. Protruding rocks aside, the track is an experience in rmding the right moment to pass. Never more than one bike length across, except on the straight, the course p laces a tremendous advantage on a good start. He who gets the hole shot, usually finishes up in front as did Christoph Specht, the German whiz, three times running. As official racing supporter, I saw to it that Bryan held out for a steady seventh overall. The next event, Arras, gave OUT team a lot to look forward to. Righ t off, the old man liked the course; it was very hilly and muddy requiring much concentration, balance, and of course, luck. He contented himself with third and fourth in the first two motos behind such names as Dave Nicoll, Andy Lee and Bjorn Johansson. In the final, the Husqvarna started out about fifth and steadily picked off the clientele, the last one being Nicoll. An American was in the lead, and the crowd was going wild. He found it quite easy going up there and was just beginning to feel confident nf a win, when with only three laps to go, a weld broke loose, the coil fell off the frame, and Bryan and the bike came to a dead stop in front of the tribune. Because of this bit of bad luck, he dropped down from what would have given us a second overall to a six th overall. In spite of this misfortune, we all felt pretty good that night. Our next two weeks will be taken up with a couple of races in our home vicinity of LeMans. But that doesn't mean the competiti"on will be any easier! We hope for some more positive results in the near future. Until then, Snowflake 'aroundMaureen Lee is out of the hospital and resting at home, recuperating from her recent illness. She reports that a tentative date for beginning her column will be in two issues. "I've got to get out and find out what's been happening - first," she says.
