And the only thing that stood between MacDonald and a whole pile of total glory, was another young rider - this one on,a C-Z - J eff Robertson. Several other riders were also close to the day's overall victory when the big machinery rolled to the starting line for the third and final moto: Kurt Markham (Hus); Joe Cushaway (C-Z); Rocky White (Maico) and Kevin Porter, Suzuki-mounted_ However, as the bikes roared through the first turn, a real back-and-forther between MacDonald and Cushaway had developed_ It wasn't until the final lap of the third moto, that Robertson was able to get un-tracked; but when he did - that - Raudman. But Raudman, a racer who's encountered more than his share of trouble in putting together an entire program of wins, found himself in last place as the cycles flew through the first turn. It proved too much of a handicap for Shorty to overcome, and he finished the day in 2nd spot, behind the winner, Hoffee. Messer was 3rd. The Puch-mounted "]ronman," John Rice once again turned three straight wins over the 125 Seniors in defeating Bill Payne (Yam) who was tied with Hoffee on a Bultaco, while 4th overall went to Tim Lunde, also on a Bultaco. Nick McLeoad grabbed a grandslam during the contesting of the Old Timers program, while Tom Hoyle, riding one of the small Hodakas, was victorious over the bikes waging battle in the small bore class. In the 100 Junior class, Jimmy Bauer turned the field every way but loose and still lost the whole shebang. Craig Price and Butch Ventzke were lst and -. . • Wins was all it wrote. While sailing into 2nd, a position which he held to ,the checkered flag, Robertson led the other collectors toward the pay window. The race for the 250 Seniors was a wild one between Scott Hoffee (BuI), Shorty Raudman (Hus), Bob Messer (Ossa) and Tom Zahnter, mounted on a new Ducati.
