THORNTON RESIGNS VERONA, NEW JERSEY, June 10, 1971 - Peter Thornton. president and chief executive officer of The Birmingham Small Arms Company Incorporated and its subsidiaries, has resigned. Mr. Thornton joined the company as president and chief executive officer in September 1969 and merged the parent company's previously independent subsidiaries in the United State into a single nationwide organization. The Company announces that 1r. Denis McCormack has been elected President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. McCormack was President of the American subsidiary Triumph Corporation, Inc. at Baltimore for 17 years. It is also announced that Mr. J.W. Harrison, who was Export Manager for B.S.A. Motor Cycles for 4 years and is at presen t U. K. Marketing Manager of the Motor Cycle Division, will move to the U. S. CAL., June 16, 1971 After a week-long layoff because of rain, EI Toro Speedway returned to action tonight with Scott Smith (Yam) again the big winner taking three main events. Only Boht Goodman (Bul) was able to hold back Scott in the 250cc Sr. S.T. Scott's wins came in the 125 Sr. TT, 250 Sr. TT and 125 Sr. ST. Scott also won both the 500 TT and ST SILENCER NOVICES FOR CORONA J .C. Agajanian, promoter of the currently successful Corona half-mile series, has decided that all Novices must have a silencer installed on their machine for future competition, effective June 26. A t least two representatives for manufacturers will be at Ascot friday and Corona Saturday to assist riders and tuners. As a reminder, however, the rule applies to Corona, and not Ascot. events, but was disqualified for riding a 250cc machine. In the Junior division there were no double winners. John Callicchio (Yam) came close with a win in the 500cc Jr. TT and a' second behind Don frauenberger (Bul) in the 500cc Jr. ST. Morris Malone (AJS) finally got everythmg together as he won the 250cc Jr. TT. Marty Davis (Bul) was second with Ossa-mounted Brad Stankey taking third. The 125 Jr. TT was the battle of the evening with 15 riders all trying for first place in the first comer. Don Grigsky was the eventual winner with another Yamaha rider Roger Dobbins taking second. Track conditions were stiU giving riders plenty of problems tonight, but there were no serious injuries, although Phil McDonald, EI Toro Speedway's high point rider Jor the '70 season, did injure his knee in the 125 Sr. TT and was not able to compete in the rest of tonigh t's races.
