BENEfIT MOTOCROSS MARRED BY CITATION 'i ~ ~ !11 s ~ w d > c..> By Elaine Jones CORONA, CAL., May 23, 1971 - The Benefit Motocross, a joint effort by Rivenide M.C., The C8cH Mini-Mites, Councilman John Sotelo, and area shops would have been termed a smashing success, except the Rivenide Pollution Control Board stepped in and served a citation for dust. The citation was not served until 8 p.m., five hours after the races were over. Mr. Eppenon who served the citation would not give it to hose sponsoring the event but went to the Liparis home and gave it to Mr. Lipari who was there because of illness. Mrs. Lipari was at the track due to the running of figure eight stock ears. Although all concerned with fYflff SPfClA LTlfS IMPERIAL BEACH YAMAHA 759 PALM AVE. IMPERIAL BEACH, CALIF. He waited around the trophy area through all the other mo tos so he wouldn't miss out. Scott A1buth was second and Thomas Buckingham third. Paul Vaccarello topped the 100cc Novice class. Second place Corky Bellah did an outstanding job. Corky was mounted on a stock 100cc Kawasaki Trail Boss and had a first and second working for bim when be lost the ball bearings out of the front end. By the way this was his Ill'St try at motocross. A lot of credit goes to Madlene Almeida, the only female entered. Walter Sharp put it all together to take the win in the 125cc Novice class. Rickman mounted Steve Dickson gave Walter most of his problems but not enough to take the win. Ken Carpenter was third. Gary Whitehead, didn't run second to anyone in the 250cc Division lJ class so he ended the day with all kinds of loot because be also had a silencer. Brian King and Bill Harris were second and third. They gave all gate fees collected in the park to the Fund. The cita tion has been turned over to Riverside District Attorney Byron Morton who so far has not taken any action. The race itself was fantastic! This was from the riders who came looking for anyone respoOSlble. This reporter has never witnessed such enthusiasm from riders. It's usually the other way around. The course is a mile and a half and gives the riders some fine riding. Every rider went home with something even if it was only a can of oil and awards were given immediately after the race which speaks highly of the Rivenide M.C. in its fint endeavor. Races got off fast and the club had plen ty of hard working people who were easy to find and always ready to help. Jim Fishback put on the best show of the afternoon. In the final moto of the Open class, Jim gave the other riders a half mile head start and every lap saw him get the course straigh ter and straigh ter.
