WIND BLOWS BEIDOO'S 11 SCIAMBLES ,... '" By Chuck Long ADELANTO, CAL., May 16, 1971 The San Bernardino M/C was out bright and early and determined to put on a good TT Scrambles point run despite the sand and win. There were, however, several incidents which marred the Il) N > '" :. ~ w Z W ..J events. One rider, we won't give your name or number, Dave, lost his cool and kicked another rider off of his bike when coming into the pits because he lost the race. The rider you kicked can get his leathers patched but you cannot patch the fact that you have acted in an unsportsman Hke manner. Then, the scare of the day goes to 179x, name unknown by me, who met the ambulance going the wrong way on the track. Quick thinking and evasive action on his part saved a well run race from being marred by a bad accident. Maybe ambulance drivers should attend riders meetings and learn the designation of yellow and red flags. It was the yellow - caution flag that was out. One of the close races of the day was the 100 Expert Motos in which Rob Morrison coming out on top over Richard Sweeny, second and Bob Sanders, third. The 250 Novice class winner, Nate Ezell led from wire to wire but what a fight for second. 187x had second sewn up but lost his chain at the white flag which let Kenny Brewster right in the second spot but then he went right straight off the track and let Richard Trait have it. The 250 Amateur class saw Dan White go off the track in first, back on in last and finish second_ He'll soon be. pushing brother Tom who incidentally U > U Open Am-Ex. winner Bob Greenstreet (391 has to battle off eventual third place finisher Alan Karshner (241. won the 250 Expert class. Good day for that family. Many thanks to S.B.M.C. for a well run race and sympathy also for the members who were sandblasted all day long. And special thaIlks to Sandy Lambert for sticking around and getting the results which appear on page 26. '. White Coolts tIt Perris By Kris Mitchell PERRIS, CAL., May 9, 1971 - At the Fourth Annual Mother's Day TT Scrambles at Perris, hosted by the Powder Puff Assn., 235 riders congregated to make a perfect day of racing. The supersonic 250's of Tom White and Steve Nichols battled for first all the way, changing leads several times each lap_ To add to the excitement, Charles Gann put on a lot of pressure from the th-ird spot. White emerged the victor. The big-bike turnout was one of the biggest in recent point run history. Jeff Sexton, Jim Connoly, and Scott Smith took a turn at wins in each motos. Sexton gathered the most points at the end of the day. Sandy Armstrong took top honors on a 40-inch Triumph followed by Steve Nichols on a Yamaha. The club was well organized and (an off all 62 events on schedule. The ambulance had to move once all day and even that was a false alarm.. (Results on page 26) • .aJa Wins again! Hal is the youngest son of Pop, a pioneer of the industry, and an ex-racer turned cow-trailer. When the Santa Clara County board of supervisors approved the purchase of some 1000 acres for a second jail farm and perhaps a sportsman's park, Kenyon and Bob Barrett went to talk with the chairman of the board, Dominic Corteses and were given a favorable response. Other members of the board were generally for it with the exception of one member. The Board of Superviso", hac"e had other speakers before them with little progress. Ed Brooks of the Northern California Motorcycle Assn. has even had Supervisor Sig Sanchez on the radio and he has categorically stated that he favors the acquisition of riding land but feels that the expense is great and the land hard to get. Kenyon feels that it is now up to the residents to show their force to the Supervisors by writing to them at 70 West Hedding St., San Jose, 95110 and ~xplaining the need for such a park.
