See S.R.D.S. small blow, likely to be ignored, but it made me feel better. GARY WEBER Tujunga, Cal. We've sent our ARCO credit cards back to the Atlantic Richfield Company with a note advising them why. Maybe if every mlc enthusiut reading this did the same, it would help change their policy as regards to letting the motorcycle riders use Pt. Richmond hills... Ed. WHILE OTHERS WATCHED... I participated in the CMC-North MX at Oak Tree Track near Hollister on the 18th of this month. I also had the , _ misfortune to fall off and badly fracture my wrist in the fmt moto of the 500 Novice class. After the crash I apparently was lying on the track, on a downhill section and in obvious danger of being run over by th e pack behind me. A rider, who happened to be NO KID(DINGI I read with more than passing interest the accuracy of .Ed Poores "telling it like it is". Four years ago I started riding competition. Age - 54 years hence the No. 54. I've collected a little gold in scrambles, IT (sportsman), Half-Mile, Flat Track. No gold so far in Enduro, Hillclimb or Motocross. This picture is of me taking four riders by going wide in the sweep er, white flag and in first place (for a few moments) then No. 717 got under me in the dog leg and also collected the checkered flag and first place gold. The payoff in the 200 'C' Main is gold for first place only I think this graphically illustrates his statement: "The youngsters (Bless their hearts) are too quick for Grandpa." It would be pure pleasure to be able to ship my 175cc Ossa Stiletto and me to Indian Dunes and to enter an "Old Timer's Race". Lottsa good luck and best wishes to you and your club. F. R. SLINGERLAND Rte. 1 Box 96A Rochester, Wash. 98579 NO MORE CREDIT BOYCOTT ARCO This is a -copy of a letter I sent to Atlantic Richfield in regards to the Point Richmond land closure. Please cancel my Credit Card in regards to the Point Richmond land closure to off the road Motorcycle riding. It is obvious that you do not want off-the-road motorcyclists like myself to use y.our products in our_ motorcycles and our support vehicles such as our cars, vans and pickups. CLAYTON L. CAMERON Pleasanton, Calif. Dear Sickle News Crew, Thought you'd be interested. The latest edition, with the letters protesting the closing of Richmond Pt. to motorcycles arrived at a perfect time coincident with a solicitation to apply for an ARCO credit card. It was my pleasure to mail the return hlank (their postage) with a notation to the effect that since ARCO had this attitude against motorcycles I not only didn't want their credit card, but would no longer buy ARCO products. Second Class Postage paid at long my bike, restarted and rode it to my truck. I want to make you and all your readers aware of the actions of this fine person. Unfortunately, I never learned his name nor had the opportunity to thank him. The only identifying features were his glasses, uMaico" riding jersey and leathers. Whoever he is, I want to thank him from the bottom of my heart for what he did that day. Riders such as this will ensure that mo tocross will remain the fan tastic sport it is today. JAMES COUNCIL 65D Oakland, Cal SERVING NOTICE Maybe you know of some organization that would like to sponsor the following idea for an anti·noise campaign. Referring to the illustration VOICES OF THE WEST watching this moto, had the presence of mind to drag me off the track and then run up the hill and slow the oncoming riders down. Having accomplished this, the unidentified rider then came back and did what he could to make me as . comfortable as possible. Not satisfied with this, he then ran about a quarter of a mile, summoned the fmt aid crew and ran back. He remained with me until the aid crew arrived on foot. All this occurred while numerous spectators were standing there staring and doing nothing. As a final touch, he retrieved of the proposed reprimand card, the idea works like this: Distribute a supply of these cards to indiyiduals and clubs who are interested in less motorcycle noise. Each person could carry a few and "serve" one to each noise polluter he finds. If enough guys riding unmuffled bikes got enough of these reprimands, they might fmally realize that nobody is impressed with their noise. . obverse NOISE POLLUTION REPRIMAND The NOISE emission from your motorcycle is EXCESSIVE. Please be more considerate of others and put a good muffler on your machine! reverse Save this card: After you have silenced your noisemaker, pass this card on to some other noise polluter. LESS SOUND MORE GROUND JACK VOLDER Santa Ana, Cal. T.B.S.A. FOLLOWS SUIT After one year's discussion the Sacramento Chaper of the Trail Bike Sportsmen Association has followed the lead of the Foothill Hawks and voted on April 21, to require silenc, ers and spark arresters on all club outings. It is h oped that all clubs will follow the lead of the Foothill Hawks. PAUL SKIDMORE Sacramento, CaL DEADMAN'S DEMAND 'We 30'l 'tne ~."twiCyc\es gONN
