The second loop was a very fast 40-mile go with a very steep, rocky downhill, a seven mile dry Lake, a lot of fast ilTe roads and, of course, lots of rocks and dust. After catching his breath, Roberts commented, "Man, I went down that steep, rocky downhill with no clutch. Some ride! I hit every rock on the hill; and those dry lakes were something else. 1 was flat out, laid out on the tank." In addition to his overall win, his second in two weeks, J.N. was given a special award by the Master Links for also being a class winner using a silencer. Following Martino was third place Pfutzenreuter on his 250 Bul which had finished with a: flat front tire. Phil Bowers muscled his 250 Yamaha to fourth ahead of Dick Breker (BuI). Jack Knebel brought his Greeves in for first 500 Jr. with Tom Clodt second. Jeff Wright (Ric) took the class win for the 125 Experts despite a destroyed rear tire and wheel. Lloyd Joines, who took the ilTst 250 Jr. honors on his Husky, remarked at the finish Line that "this was something else. I didn't know what to think - out-.a-sigh t" A very fast Greg Hawks was the first 100 rider to take the checkered to win the Expert class followed very closely by Randy Milligan, Jim Summers and Larry Roeseler, all riding HarLey Bajas.
