Nicholas topped the field for fast time in the Expert class and Gary Scott kept rolling along at a record clip in the Junior division to again take top time honors. Another of the best-ever type events was the Expert heat race featuring Lloyd Houchins and Mel Lacher. The two rode to the final tum as though it was a $10,000 event. The lead changed six times before the two reached the final tum. .Then handlebars came together as did front wheels and number plates. Lacher did a fast crashing slider into the fence with Houchins stayin!\, on the wheels for the win. . Dan Haaby's bad luck streak continued only this week it came in the heat race while running near the front for a transfer to the Expert main event. The dash was to be a come-from-behind preview of things to come for Nicholas. J ody was fourth, or last at the end of the first lap. He was third with one to go and won it out of the final tum. This was his first dash win this season and becomes the sixth rider to go into the circle for the trophy. No Expert has won more than once this season. Nicholas and his Allison Norton found themselves in seventh place at the end of the first lap in the final. Dewayne Keeter and h te Earl H-D were up front with Houchins right behind and new papa Terry Dorsch in third. J ody had worked his way to fourth at the end of three laps with Houchins and the Red Line BSA taking the lead at the end of the fourth. Then it was a six lap duel between Houchins and Nicholas for the lead until J ody finally edged to the front on lap eleven. Keeter then found new desire and a faster groove to again close and passed Houchins for second place on the final lap. Scott and the Ontario Triumph remained undefeated for the fifth Main Event winner Jody Nicholas has a lot to smile about.
