f ... M Robertson Takes Steen Series By John Shedd POMONA, CAL., March 28, 1971 Jeff Ro~ertson picked off his sixth win in a row in the 500 Junior class, and by doing so he won the Steen's Motocross At the line all you can do is wait. Series and a new motorcycle to boot. Only one poin t behind in the series was John McDonald who earned all his points in the 100cc Junior class. To make it interesting, McDonald entered the 500 class on a CZ, and when the flag fell it was McDonald moving into the lead. Robertson didn't look as smooth on his new mount, a CZ, but he was still able to overtake and capture the lead and took the win. In the second moto, Jeff got a bad start and, while trying to work up, almost crashed on an off camber comer forcing him into the soft stuff and through a pile of tires. When he got going again he was in lOth. George Erl, who had taken the lead on a Maico, was stretching it out when Jeff moved into fourth. The next rider he had to pass was McDonald who did everything in his power to stop him. For several laps it was one whale of a race but Robertson finally passed and then moved up into second whese he finished. Jeff didn't have as much trouble winning the final moto, but McDonald was right on his heels. Bill Clements pushed his Huskies to wins in both the 500 Expert and the 250cc Expert classes. In the first go of the 250 class most of his competition came in the form of one Mike Cram and his yellow Maico. In the second moto Cram took over and had CZ mounted Jim Cooke kicking up the dirt close behind. Bill came in third with Tom ... a « ~ w Z W ...J tJ > U Mike Cram shows why he hold CMC's No.1 plate. Rapp (Bul) close behind. Bill had the third molo wired and once he took the lead he was never headed. Jim Cooke was a solid second all the way and Rapp beat out Cram for third. Clements took the win in the first 500 moto, but couldn't get it together in the second. Cram led in the fITst few laps then,Jim Wilson (CZ), who had not been able to get going up until this point, took it over and moved on out of sight. [n the last moto Wilson grabbed the lead at the start and he looked like he might make it two in a row. A spill, however, dropped him back to fourth and Clements roared on by to take the lead and win. Cram was running a close second but Wilson nosed him out on the next to the last lap to finish second.
