- January One Brings New fJCfI'a;n Dues Increase ,... - Benefits And New $7 Price '" , By now it should have been apparerrt to all that the AMA's old dues of $2 per year was the world's greatest bargain. It should also have been plain obvious that the AMA couldn't do much as an association on such thin funds. A rise in dues was inevitable and overdue, but the Association held off making the rise until it was confident, as it is now, that it has more to offer the members. It should not be assumed that the added $5 is just for the insurance that each member now receives. The insurance actually costs about $2.50 per memb'er. The additional dues will go to help pay for the many new activities and benefits announced on these pages, that the members have been asking for these many years. One question that has been asked concerns the U$2 member" during 1971, the year of transition. For example, there are many members who will not be charged the $7 dues until sometime after January first. Some will be AMA members at the old $2 fee until December, 1971. These people also get the total benefits of the new membership package, including the insurance coverage. They will receive no additional billing until their regular renewal date comes up. If there is any further information needed, contact the AMA headquarters at Box 231, Worthington, Ohio 43085 or call (614) 888-3436. ell Effective January 1, 1971 - the C same day that the American Motorcycle .!ll Association joins the world sport by ~ becoming the official United States w . representative of the FIM - the AMA Z also provides a new membership ~ package that includes benefits not ~ provided by any other sport association U in the world, at any price. To help pay for the newly established programs, as well as the many more planned for the futre, membership dues in tne American Motorcycle Association will become seven dollars a year. AMA News remains at three dollars a year. Those who renew or join and order the magazine at the same time ($10 combined fee) will receive thirteen issues instead of twelve. Info Office Steps Up Act.vit, One of the benefits of membership in the American Motorcycle Association in 1971 will be an increase in the productivity of the AMA News Department. Newly available funds are being channeled into the department in order that it might be remodeled and made more efficient with the addition of the new staff and equipment. During 1970 the AMA News Department dispersed an average of three press releases a week to the news media. Each of these releases, describing the good aspe.cts of motorcycling, went out to six hundred television stations and newspapers. Such a program, combined with the AMA's new televised public s('fety campaign, is a major contributor to the improvement of motorcycling's image. 1971's improvements will include a better association magazine, an increase in the press release service, and the televised safety campaign.
