" It malces Yamahas go better tool LaJd" power booster really worlcs NE~~'~UPER CENTRALIA, WASH., Dec. 6, 1970 All five season trophy winners today" showed why they have that honor... each won his respective race. Charles Strayer rode his Penton in an unchallenged race all the way to win the 125 Sr. class with George Me elly second. Next came John Geelan's turn at the winner's circle as he pushed his 175 Kawasaki to a 200 Sr. win. Jerry Stidham on a Yamaha was second. The 250 Class fell to the fast looking Bob Reed Montesa while Erv Sverdrup had his Montesa do similar honors in the 360 Class. As usual, Husky mounted Lee ST. Clair powered his way to an easy win in the Open class to complete the season troph y winners' clean sweep. Indoor ST Hit By Fran & Joe Compton LUBBOCK, TEXAS, Dec. 5, 1970 Success was obvious tonight for the Hi-Plains Racing Association's initial running of indoor Short Track in the Lubbock Coliseum. A total of 60 entries packed the indoor track and provided for a great show which is a good omen for the rest of the series. The McFarlands from Odessa made a clean sweep of the 125 Novice Main with Donald and Ray leading the charge ahead of father WendalJ to finish one-two~three. V ick A ces Indio MOTOCROSS ENGINEERS----- n~AIJ ~ The clubs next event is set for Jan. 17, and will be a scrambles, the first in a series of six on a newly formed track. (Results on page 20) fILM. The sweep in the 125 Am/Ex. races was reduced to one person and Rick. Billings took all the gold while garnering the top honors in the 250 Novice as well. David Fisher and Roy Richardson tOllIed the course behind Billings in the 125 go and Boyd Hutcherson and Dennis Graves had the similar misfortune in the 250 class. Cautious riding by Lee Rogers paid' off with victory in the 250 Am/Ex. Main as he rode the first three laps never farther than three places back. In the fourth he took the lead after Gary Baileyfell, forcing leader Larry Fielding wide on a tum. .Fielding maintained second for the duration of this race and Danny Sailsbury overcame a bad start to work up to third. Bailey's night was not all a bad trip as he earlier won his heat as well as the trophy dash. Craig Ross and Don Shobert dueled for the lead in Y1e Min-Bike race. Ross took over first on the last lap and went on to win. Earl Stovall was third. An unusual grudge match sponsored by area Honda dealers proved to be a real pleaser as the fat-tired three wheelers staged a five-lap marathon and numerous wheelie contests. (Results on page 20) By Stewart Dowd INDIO, CALIF., Dec. 6, 1970 - In a brilliant display of riding Dick Vick (Hus) aced the Open class hy passing front running Jim Francis (Hus) in the last lap. Preceding this action, the 250cc class saw John Rogers (Hus) take the checkered flag. Close on his heels was Wayne Matlock (Hus). In his first race on his new Rickman 125, Kris Parr came from the middle of the pack to top the 125 class. Joe Elliot held off the rest of the mob for second place. It must have been the Rickman Bros. day as the 100cc class was won by Nick Mercado on one of the super handling little blue machines. Second place was nailed down by Kurt Davis on his Super Rat. No one could have asked for better racing weather with the temperature in the low 70's and a light overcast to cut the glare. Chris Weinold collected the best hand in the Poker Run to take home the trophy in this event.
