P108 50 Years Ago JUNE 23, 1970 LOOKING BACK Craig Vetter's Mystery Ship was pictured on the cover 40 years ago. The Vetter custom motorcycle could be yours for $10,000... We had coverage of the 500cc World Championship Series from Misano and Jarama (Spain). Kenny Roberts won them both... Steve Moorehead won the AMA GNC/ Winston Pro Series round at the Delaware State Fairgrounds Half-Mile... Kent Howerton clinched the 250cc AMA National Motocross title at Atlanta International Raceway after winning both motos. 40 Years Ago JUNE 13, 1980 A happy Gary Nixon was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago after winning the Loudon 100-Mile National. It was his first win of the season and since breaking his leg the previous year... We had coverage of the Baja 500. Husqvarna riders Bill Silverthorn and Gene Fetty teamed up for the overall win... Whitey Martino won the Desert Turtles Hare & Hound in Hi Vista, California... Alex Chinowski was a big winner over Sammy Tanner in the Expert final at Ascot; Kenny Roberts outdueled Gary Scott for the Novice-class win. (Left) Kevin Hines rode to victory at the Little Burr National Enduro in Ohio 30 years ago. (Right) It was a wet one in England for the MX GP tripleheader, but only the 125s got to race. James Dobb took the win.
