Dec. 4, 1970Bob Sanders and Chris Smith each won a pair of main events Friday night at Trojan Speedway. Each rider won a main in the TT and the flat track division. Sanders rode his Kawasaki to \~ctory in the 100 TT ~Iain Event. ~Iark Revels, U >- u (lnter-A m from page 15) Jim O'Neal (CZ) took first in the 250cc Sr. and shared hooors with 'fom Rapp (Bul) second and Walt Axthelm • (Oss) third. Jeff Wright surprised a talented 125cc Sr. class and won the first moto but could not main tain it in the second when Gene Cannady (Sac) won and took overall honors. Wright dropped to second on his Rickman. Other Sunday winners who transferred from Saturday's races were Steve Armstrong (Yam), 125cc Jr., Mike Stephenson (CZ) 250cc Jr., and Brenney Coates (l-tus) 500cc Jr. (Results on page 26) CIVIL WAR. Harley-Davidson rider Rick Hutchins brought his bike in third. In the 100 Flat Track Main again it was Bob Sanders in the lead. Sanders built up a good size lead by the second lap over Mark REvels. By the end of the race Bob had a lead by the length of the back straight. Rich Hutchins placed third again. The 250 TT Main Event had to be restarted when Harold Cam went down in the first turn. On the restart Chris Smith jumped into the lead with his Montesa. Tim Wolf put his Bultaco in the second spot and kept it there. Greg Mitchell placed third on his Ossa. In the 250 Flat Track Main, again Chris Smith jumped into the lead. He was followed by Bob Sanders on a Bultao and Larry Shaw, also on a Bultaco. Smith held onto the lead and beat Sanders by a foot. Shaw had troubles and dropped hack. Tim Wolf held on for third. Greg Cunningham won the 125 TT Main mounted on a Yamaha. Cunningham and the second place finisher did lap a slower bike ridden by your reporter, who managed to come in sixth when two bikes went down and then dr.opped out. Barrie Idom placed third. The 125 Flat Track Main went to Lloyd Quintaro, riding a Yamaha. Dennis Hanson led the first lap then was passed by Quin taro and Idom. ' Greg Cunningham was the winner of the 125 TT Trophy DAsh. Wally Jones and Glenn Bievenae put their efforts together on a Suzuki and won the Buddy race held over the T.T. track. The bikes will be back this Friday night at Trojan Speedway for Flat Track and TT racing. (Results on page 26) Hard To Keep Up With Jones ARLINGTON, TEXAS, Nov. 22, 1970 - Bill Byerly No. 115 took the lead in the 125 Jr. motocross with a perfect score of 1200 points. Ron Janson was awarded second with third going to Joe Busby. In the 250 Jr. Jerry Boren was out front all the way in the first heat, but dropped way back in the pack in the second, then returned to win the third which got hiro an overall second place. Gary Goertzen got a second, first and third, winning for hirosdf first place trophy. Third place went to Terry Holm. In the Junior Open Bill Wood, out front for the first lap was overtaken by Rodney Gorman. Then John Wooley shot out front and stayed there all the way in the second heat, and lap one of the third, when Gorman again took the lead and ended up witil first place. The Sr. class 125s lined up and Anthony Jones showed 'em how. Jones stayed out front every lap, every heat, with the style of a champion. He's a very smooth and confident rider. Ole Finstad got second witli some very stylish riding on his Penton, with third place going to Tom Chalmers. In the Open Sr. Jones did it again! Everyone ate his dust during the whole race. Joe Connell came in second and Phil Snipes too third. Perris Season Nears End PERRIS, CALIF., Qec. 5,1970 - Doug Mason, celebrating his sixteenth birthday, continued on his winninll: streak but only half-way. The 250cc Amateur-Expert class is still big but for the first time he got pushed. Tom White, who has proven his ability as a fast one, started out by gtvmg Doug some competition but in his own words, "I could ride this track till doomsday and never find the line." The 100 Novice go was a run-away effort for Wayne Cook as he completely swamped the ability of an excellent young rider Dan Blaylock. . The 125 Novice event - along with the 73 eager racers _. saw Jeff Wecker 'THERE'S ALOT OF C-Z INSIDE AMERICAN JAWA Race proven on the international speedway track. Truely a champion with 58 hp at 8,000 rpm. Dry weight only 182 lb. The SOOcc DT Speedway is only one of the 13 models from the Jawa/CZ line. • I~ build up a tremendous lead, meet some kind of trouble, and fall prey to a war-party which was headed by Eddie Cole. In the 250 Am.-Ex. snorter, Dusty Coppage was unable to cope with swifty Larry Watkins, and the class "C" rider had to settle for second best. Newhall bike dealer Dick Allen was a charging· third at the final wire. Allen Shirey tamed a wild bunch in the 250cc Novices in a race which was a genuine war dance from the very start. The OPen A,-Ex. scrambles saw Gene Smith trying every stunt of which his Triumph was capable and after a see-saw type of battle both Rick Shirey and Marty Dahlquist smoked right on past a falling Smith and that's the way it went into the books: Shirey, DAhlquist and Smith. The Open Novice match was such a crash 'em, drop out and drop in affair that this writer is still not certain how it did finish, but one thing for sure it really tossed out the action. Indian Dunes, which is under the able direction of 21-year CRA President, Walt James, and which is oepn to the public for fun and games throughout the week, will be holding it next race, motocross, Dec. 20.
