The city has awarded a contract for the purchase of 13 1talian·made Moto Guzzi .cycles, designed specifically for police work. Claimed by tbe Los Angeles Police Department as being "faster on the getaway", the Moto Guzzi bikes are also cheaper than the U.S. machines currently in use. When first brought up, City Councilman Emmet. M. Smith argued hat the city government should support American enterprise. "Harley·Davidson is as standard an American product as Wrigley chewing gum." Councilman Thomas J. Clark, last year, said he felt it would be "a little ridiculous" for Long Beach, wbose harbor depends on world trade and wbich calls itself "Tbe International City" to refuse to buy any imported product. The decision was finally made when the only response in bids came from Long Beach Triumph, a firm handling Moto Guzzi. No other firm or dealer made a bid. You can't tell a Husky Husqvarna won the "Mexican 1000" last year and came back looking for a repeat this year. After leading most of the way, Smith and Martino broke a chain. Whitey Martino recovered and finished just eight minutes off the winning pace. Roberts and Nielson finished third. You can't tell a Husky to quit.
