Smith's closest competition came in the Short Track events from M""k Kruse who won both heat races but could not get it going for better than second in the mains. Highlighting the evening of races By Rich Hoffman M ~ ORANGE COUNTY, CALIF., Oct. 23, 1970 - If anybody came out tonight to ~ see Scott Smith get defeated, he left w them quite disappointed as the OCS z "Wonder Boy" again captured all six IT w and Short Track Main Events in the Z were the mini bikes won by Kevin Kobel followed by Bob Madden and Larry Gross, all riding Hondas. Th e 125 cc Trophy Dash was garnered by Gary Kauffeld while Smith took the 250cc clash for his seventh win of the evening. Because of the Inter-Am at Ascot and the Spee!lway races at Costa Mesa, OCS will not run this Friday night hut will continue with IT and Short Track racing Nov. 6 for the final race of the season. Included in that program will be another mini "bike race as well as a powder puff face-off. (Results on page 22) .:J o > o BAffLED BIICES VICTOR-IOUS AT PERRIS By Elaine Jones PERRIS, CALIF., Oct. 24, 1970 Schwimmer and Paul Lambert proved a bike running with a silencer can win and convincingly as they walked away with the 125 Novice and Amateur-Expert classes. For their wins they picked up an extra bonus of $5 along with their trophies. Next week the Burtons are going one step farther and will "awM.d gate passes to the second and " third place riders if they are running with a silencer. Schwimmer also picked up the second place slot in the 175-200cc class bowing to Charles Soderstrom. Lambert also placed in another class as he pulled .a ..thir~ in the 250cc Amateur-Expert LarrY class. Doug Mason looking sharper than he has all year was fl1'st and led the boys by a big margin. Dennis Cr.eason was second. Tony Denius didn't seem to have any competition in the Amateur-Expert Moto and took all three with ease. John Rice, out for the evening as a spectator, was wanting to ride and Tony was hoping he would. George Gillespie was second and Bill Goff running with the big boys for the fU'St time was third. Bill whose last narne has given people fits with the spelling was hoping it could be messed up this week. Bruce Prior looked like he was going to take over Bill's place in the Novice Moto A but teammate Ken Miller beat him out and Bruce picked up second. Qra"D..'t PROFESSIONAL ......, ' " SAFETY HELMETS Brian McMillan was the winner of the Novice Moto B. Steve Brewer who has run second for a long time came up with number one as he took the Second Division of 250cc Novice. Michael Horton took the First Division. Mike DuBont picked up a much deserved and long fought for win as he won the First Division of 100cc Novices over stronJl[ rivals Vic Hensley and Jeff Coleman. Steve Bales and Steve S turgID won the Second and Third Divisions. Roy Addington won the 125cc Novice Class over John Sandona and Art Castell. Kirk McDowell entertained the spectators as he traded his Formula I cars for a Mini-Bike and did his thing with the kids while dad tested out a IOOcc Honda with the bigger kids. Derek Rickman Beaten By Tripes In Final Ensenada MX of Season By Leslie Gault ENSENADA, BAJA, MEX., Oct. 18, 1970 - The EBRA held its last motocross for the season today with a turnout small but well seasoned. Derek Rickman was on hand on his own product, a 500cc Westlake BSA-Metisse and found strong competition from Martin Tripes' 250cc CZ. . Tripes won all motos while Rickman showed a smooth, vacationing form to only pull out second in each. HUSKY parts & The under 250cc class saw a fast race for points by Jack Mahan and Lee Eabree. First count gave Eahree the win with two thirds and a fl1'st. But, a later re<;ount reversed the decision and gave Mahan the overall win with a pair of seconds and a third. This tied the duo but Mahan was declared the winner because he led Eahree across the finish line twice. Obsidian trophies and a case of beer made a cool day out of a hot one down here, south of the border.
