Nicholas Streaks To Ascot Half -Mile Win. Don Federson Productions, producers of the nationally-televised weekly CBS series, "Family Affair", has shown Steen's, Inc. that mini-bikes are as claimed, a "family affair." The two easily-recognizable young stars of "Family Affair", Anissa Jones and Johnnie Whitaker (Buffy & Jody in the series) can be found on location (or offstage) with their TACO "22" Mini-Bikes. Both youngsters enjoy relaxing moments between "takes" and, when their schedules permit, just a simple means of ha;ving a good time. Of course, you don't have to see the "stars" to believe mini-bikes are a "family affair." Just watch the thousands of people - many of them proud owners of Steen's TACO Mini-Bikes now pursuing two-wheHed leisure activities at every opportunity. GARDENA, CALIF., Sept. 11, 1970 For the past month everything at Ascot, well nearly everything, has been J ody Nicholas and ills Norton.. Friday night he scored his third sweep of the year in the big bore division. A light entry, due to many riders heading for Sacramento early, found the Experts and Amateurs running as one class for the first time this year. Nicholas again posted the fast time trial and was the only rider in the 22 second bracket. Amateurs Freddie Edwards and Don Emde tried to shoot down the ex-pilot in the heat race with both actually holding J ody for more than two of the five laps. Then the N orton horsepower took over and went on for th e win. Terry Dorsch upset the Experts in the second heat race but Shorty Seabourne came back in the third heat to regain the honors for the Experts. Emde again tried on Nicholas in the trophy dash but pulled second with J ody winning the dash for the third time in the last five weeks. Seabourne ran third with Carl Patrick in last place. Everybody was out to stop Nicholas in the fmal with Jody fifth at the end of the first lap and third at the end of two. Seabourne was off to a perfect start and held the lead to the end of lap six before Nicholas got by for the lead. Then ~mde came on strong to run wheel to wheel with Shorty in an attempt to break up the Norton one-two with his BSA 650. The promising Amateur grabbed second and held it until the eleventh lap before Seabourne, who is noted for his late lap drives, got back in to take second for the second straight week behind his teammate on the Allison Nort·ons. . Emde held third with Dorsch topping veteran Expert, Glen Adams, for the number four spot. . Gary Scot,t won his 15th straight heat race in the Novice class but the Yamaha rider had no one to race with in the final. Once again mechanical troubles knocked point leader Kenny Roberts out of contention. Roberts was leading his heat race and a sure winner until forced to the sidelines for about the sixth time this season. AI Baker, Tom Vardeman and Andy Skeel joined Scott as heat race winners. Scott was in front all the way in the final with Mike Lane, Baker and Loyal Penn chasing. The first four across the line were Yamahas and only Roberts and bis Suzuki appear to be the stoppers on the many Yamahas running up front each and every Friday nigh t. The somewhat mild entry list in recent weeks will be no more. This coming Friday and Sa~urday night, and the rest of the season, will be top name riders all th e way. About 150 riders will be in action this Friday night on the TT course with 125 official entries already in for the Saturday night national half mile. The 12th annual half mile features every Expert in the top 20 in the national point standings. Many of the nation's ranking riders wiII compete both nights but all is riding on the big one Saturday night. _ (Results on page 24) THE VIKING SERIES IN 1970. ALL RACES WERE WON ON TRELLEBORG TIRES.
