Powell shot across the line with Dorsch
following.
Entrants In the Championship were
Rice, Mulder, Brelsford, Aldana, Mann,
Corpe, Coppage, Hansen, Van Leeuwen,
Romero, Palmgren, and Lathrop. All
sped away as the flag fell, except Dick
Mann, who coasted to a stop, peeking
around his tank to see the hole where the
oil was pouring out.
Rice f1n1shed the first lap with Mulder
and Corpe following. Positions remained
to lap four when Aldana moved into third.
but no one was getting close to Rice. Then
Mulder developed problems and rapidly
dropped four positions.
Brelsford was working hts way uP,
replacing Corpe's third on the eighth lap.
And Romero was maldng-a steady drive,
moving from next to last uP to fourth at
the half-way point. Lathrop retire witha
sick motor, Rice having lapped him back
on lap eight.
Coppage's Yamaha also was getting
. tired, but teammate Palmgren was making up for it by moving steadily uP through
the ranks.
On _lap eighteen, Brelsford, who had
held his distance behind Aldana, retired
with mechanical troubles and Corpe
also dropped out.

Rice f1n1shed his allotted twenty laps
having never been challenged, and the
field was strung out behind him over the
distance of the entire track. The ailing
Coppage had been lapped on lap eighteen.
